Hi,
I have an old PAL Xbox 360 Xenon that I would like to update to dashboard 17559, but I want to make sure I do not run into an E66/update loop because of the DVD drive.
The console details are:
Xbox 360 Xenon, manufactured 22 January 2006.
It previously suffered RROD and was sent to Microsoft's official repair service.
Current dashboard: 2.0.12625.0.
No JTAG/RGH/modchip. The NAND/dashboard is completely retail.
The only modification is that the DVD drive was flashed years ago to read backup discs.
The current drive is a Philips & BenQ VAD6038.
I still have the original firmware dump that was given to me when the drive was flashed: BENQ-OFW.bin, 256 KB.
JungleFlasher 0.1.96 identifies that dump as:
Inquiry string found
Identify string found
Drive key @ 0x...
Firmware Osig: [PBDS VAD6038-64930C ]
Firmware is: Stock
So I have the original 64930C stock firmware and DVD key backed up.
The console was originally manufactured before BenQ drives were used, but since it was repaired by Microsoft, I assume the BenQ may have been fitted by the official service centre.
My main question is: what is the safest way to update this console from 12625 to 17559?
I know that dashboard 13146 reflashed BenQ drives and changed them to the newer stock firmware (04421C), so I am wondering whether I should install 13146, then 13599, and finally 17559.
Is there any advantage, in terms of avoiding E66 / failed DVD firmware update / update loop, to installing 13146 first, letting Microsoft perform the intended BenQ 64930C → 04421C migration, checking that everything works, then installing 13599 and finally 17559?
I am not concerned about losing the ability to read backup discs. My priority is getting the console safely to 17559 without bricking it or getting stuck in an update error.
Thanks!
