I saw no one has brought this up yet, but Nintendo finally 30 years on has dropped the finished and abandoned Dragon Hopper (D-Hopper) and Zero Racers (basically F-Zero 2 in spirit) on the NSO+Exp pack service. Of course, given people have the tools and access, they were immediately dumped and uploaded online, just as was within the last year Virtual League Baseball 2, and around a decade ago Bound High.

I know Vintex64 is out there and have been for years, but are there other parties out there that do one off cartridges using existing or new boards/pins if someone wanted to make an alt-history library for the US VIrtual Boy given they had let the thing survive another year not shoving it and SNES(Starfox2) out thinking N64 was a 1995 originally instead of later 96?

I imagine that's a REALLY niche category. It's not like the VB was popular in the first place so releasing enthusiast-grade physical goods is a niche of a niche.

That said, it's a consideration I've been mulling on too. I wouldn't pursue it myself (getting a MrCART was my answer to that and that was already a significant investment by itself) but the notion had crossed my mind.

Oh it is a niche, but it does exist. One look at PlanetVirtualboy and Vintex64 too (as a supplier) shows it's there, and it's a growing community. Like with GB Studio and NES Maker there's the vUE engine now for VB development. There are good kits, a few, there are new games being made, some released.
