I would like to know how well it handles Switch but Nintendo went hard after everyone even mentioning Switch emulation so now all the reviewers that get pre-release review samples are too afraid to talk about Switch, let alone do performance tests.
i have an ayn thor, same soc. the answer is, if you use eden nightly: very well!
some games run better than others, but i played xenoblade chronicles 1 and persona 5 royal and mario odyssey and those ran really well.
a brandnew game like digimon story time strangers ran poorly, so did sonic crossworlds.

just needs some more time for those, i suppose.

Is it worth mentioning I also ordered a Odin 3 Max?
haha nice!
i like keeping my 3d and 2d games seperate too.
a handheld with an analog stick on top for 3d games and one with a dpad on top for games that are 2D (or on a 2D plane).
i dont like playing 2d games with an analog stick.

afaik its basically a version without the modem and the random phone-parts a handheld doesnt need. could be that makes it run a bit cooler?
Cooler = better performance maybe??
at least that would make sense to me

Cant find any more info about it. But since the market for this DragonWing is IOT i think it might be less power efficient compared to the Snapdragon ?

i think youre overthinking it man!
i think the difference, if any, is gonna be super-minimal.
for a long time handheld companies have used the non-phone versions of the snapdragon chips and just always called them by the snapdragon names until qualcomm intervened and told them not to.
the performance should really be just about the same!
This chip is gonna perform extremely well.
this is, by no small margin, the most powerful handheld this size ever made.

As others have mentioned, the 8 Gen 2 is well documented at this point. And this is basically that. It’s solid. I did several play throughs of the Skyward Sword HD randomiser on my Odin 2 Mini.

I’d argue a 4:3 screen isn’t an ideal pick for Switch emulation either way, but to each their own.

yeah, couldnt agree more. its a really good SOC.
actually a little over-powered for the systems most will actually emulate on this. Saturn NGC, Wii, PS2, etc etc. but thats a GOOD thing, because a lot of people (that arent me) will be able to use the extra horsepower for shaders. That seems really popular.

... i will just use the extra horsepower to emulate PC games and Switch <3 hehe

EDIT: OLED has no borders! any part of the screen that isnt currently used... is simply turned off. id say its pretty much perfect for any aspect ratio if you want a small and powerful handheld

Disagree here. For an aspect ratio like 3:2 where the black bars would be small for 4:3 and 16:9 I think it holds true, but for something like 4:3 the image just looks off.
Can you point me to a thread? I cant seem to find any info.
I can confirm this, I paid no import via 4PX to the UK for my Odin 2 Mini. Another person in the thread below reported the same if that helps any.

he is absolutely right.
if youre a EU-citizen i can say this for ABSOLUTELY sure: Avoid DHL like the plague.
DHL declares everything and does loads more paperwork, registering everything everywhere... reaaaally fucking you over to make sure everyone knows youre getting something you bought and what you bought etc any info they can get their hands on.
ive tried dhl and ive tried 4px/yunexpress and DHL fucked me over (close to) every time.
DHL does arrive a few days earlier, but not massively so, and your chances of paying import taxes, duties etc rises significantly.

i would recommend avoiding them.

i dont understand? the black parts of OLED screens are ALWAYS off, no matter the aspect ratio. those parts just literally turn the pixels off and use no energy, so any aspect ratio will look pretty great on it.

Someone did a comparison and checked how large the viewable screen-space of a 16:9 image would be on the Nova and it was about the size of a psp go or 3ds screen, so NOT as tiny as you would think, definitely useable.
If you love small handhelds anyway (like me) this is gonna be right up your alley, no matter what aspect ratio your chosen content is in.

It's still a massive bezel. Admittedly most of the flavours use a black border this time around, but if you've got this one it still stands out:

It's part of the reason I never got a Thor. The OLED bottom screen would only really look good on the black model, and that's by far the worst looking one.

We have different tastes, but thats okay.
Thank god there are so many handhelds nowadays that there should be something for everyone now!

Dragonwing is the streetname 8 Gen elite. Shame there isn't a catchier one for the 8 Gen 2.

Maybe Bro, just loves bezal? Saying that, the widest thing I'm playing on my Nova will be GBA.

@Exnor here in germany, too, trust me!
i could tell you stories you would NOT BELIEVE.
They used to be much better, but took a nosedive years ago.
Dealing with them now that you cant even talk to a human anymore (or at least not easily) did not improve things either.

Same here. back in 2010 they were ok, far from the worst, but now they lie about trying to deliver or just don't deliver at all.
