Xbox to increase in price again in August, Series S set to hit $500

Remember when you could get an Xbox Series S for $300? Those were the days. Microsoft has today announced the latest in their console price hikes, seeing their once-affordable system now exceed what the more powerful Series X cost at launch. Set to come into effect on the first of August, you can find an overview of the increases below:
  • Xbox Series S (512GB): $399 ➜ $499 (25% Increase)
  • Xbox Series S (1TB): $449 ➜ $599 (33% Increase)
  • Xbox Series X (1TB Digital): $599 ➜ $749 (25% Increase)
  • Xbox Series X (1TB): $649 ➜ $799 (23% Increase)
In their press release, Microsoft shine a light on the state of the industry, noting that games consoles are being hit particularly hard on the back of them typically being sold at a loss out of the gate. With less headroom to eat costs, they're inevitably passed onto consumers. With Microsoft expecting another doubling of storage and memory prices by fall of 2027, future price increases also seem likely.

why is like half the current news on GBAtemp just bad news, Sony discontinuing discs, Vita and PS3 Store shutting down, Switch 1 planned to be discontinued in Europe and price increases.
Just having a scroll through the replies here. If you want the honest answer to this, it's that when I'm swamped, I only have time to cover the big things. The big things are generally bad at the moment.

When I'm slightly less swamped I try to seek out ROM hacks and the like more than anything. Posting smaller bits of news about random games I see feels like a waste of my time when half the replies are usually along the lines of "who asked" and "don't care" lol

Exactly why I feel like cheaper hardware deserves more highlights more often, of course by now we know hardware power/expensive doesn't always equal more fun but others might not. Even if it's something random from indiegogo or AliExpress I want to learn about the stuff that can play roms, not always read the typical boohoo Ai is bad, look at how expensive the big three are making things negative type of news etc...

Oh I love emulation handhelds, but have you seen any news post about an emulation handheld? It's worse than a "Nintendo bad" post lol

I get that, I also think opinions may change quick if people start learning how much more money they could save without having to go through additional mods let's be real most mod a ps5 just cause they wanna play ps2 on it funny enough lol. Compare and contrast/ease of use price charts etc...
