I've seen multiple solutions for using other controllers as Pro Controllers, but nothing for Wiimotes. Is there something significantly different about how the system handles Wiimotes, or is it just a lack of developer interest? I had been very interested in HID to VPAD's ability to control inputs from my PC for remote play with people online, but due to multiple latency factors in this setup, it's only really viable for less serious games, and many of those don't have mappings for Pro Controllers.

We can simulate Wiimotes in (v)Wii with DualShock 3 / 4 controllers using Fakemote. The output from Wiimotes is significantly different from a standard controller (accelerometers, IR pointer, gyros from WiiMotion+), so it's not very surprising that it's a different, possibly harder, job to spoof them. Maschell did have an experimental branch of HID-to-Vpad that let you use a DS4 as the GamePad (with motion and touch), but never got it to be stable enough to implement in the main version.

If you want to play with people on the internet through your computer, I would recommend using Dolphin rather than trying to connect to your Wii U. Cemu can probably do this for Wii U games.

That is probably the smarter solution. At the time I first attempted this, I didn't have a strong enough computer to run Cemu, but to be honest, the idea of having doing this with console is far more interesting to me. Admittedly, part of it is that I stream and being able to say I was doing remote play on real hardware feels like it'd be a bit of a hook, or at least a little funny. I tried it once with HID to VPAD and Pro Controllers with Mario 3D World, but there was just too much latency involved for a fun time.

My test case for something less timing heavy was Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, which don't make heavy use of the primary Wiimote features, but I can see difficulty supporting those keeping people from setting something up to fake Wiimotes in the first place.

Probably a dead end all in all, but I guess the question remains, does the Wii U operating system handle the Wiimote in a significantly different way from Pro Controllers?
