For that matter, you could simply explain to me how you would go about making an AI model profitable. All anyone has come up with so far is selling ad space in conversations, and that's failed to keep most websites profitable for decades now. Again AFAIK, if anything it would be the NTSC-J JP MD that it would be incompatible with due to the physical cart.

Bearing in mind that unless they did something like custom moulds, MD repros are relatively cheap to make since they don't use a lockout chip.

I just wonder how many people will buy this hoping it appreciates in value, as opposed to just liking the product.

In their press release, Microsoft shine a light on the state of the industry, noting that games consoles are being hit particularly hard on the back of them typically being sold at a loss out of the gate. With less headroom to eat costs, they're inevitably passed onto consumers. With Microsoft expecting another doubling of storage and memory prices by fall of 2027, future price increases also seem likely.

I was originally gonna hold off as if things were normal and I could just buy one later at the launch price when games I want to play are out, but the Steam Deck prices shocked me into reality and I immediately got a Switch 2 before the price increase. Buying a console at launch price is an investment now as they're all guaranteed to go up in price for years to come.
