Steam Summer Sale goes live, various titles discounted by varied amounts

In this time of economic uncertainty and rampant price hikes, the Steam sales stand as our final bastions of affordability for those opting to avoid the seas. The 2026 Summer Sale is now live! Those with a PC can excitedly start rummaging through their bloated wishlists for that one game they've been waiting to drop below 50% off.

With so much to choose from I figured I'd throw out a few personal recommendations. At the top of that list is Monster Hunter Rise, a game that will happily run on any old potato, for a grand total of £7.99 with the Sunbreak expansion. We've also got the original Slay the Spire, which remains a fantastic way to lose 100 hours of your life, at just £4.99. And to round out my brief list, I'll throw Palworld out there. Though it's only discounted by 30%, sitting at £17.49, there is a chance its retail price will increase when it moves out of Early Access next month. If you've been debating it, there's not much of a better time to give it a shot.

You've got until the 9th of July to find what you fancy, so take your time and make use of Steam's refund policy to make sure you're not left holding onto a game you might not want to play to the end.

That's how I feel. I looked at my Steam Wishlist and felt these discounts looked familiar and unremarkable. I know I've kvetched about this the last few Summer/Winter Sales, so I'll be quiet.
Wanted to tell you good job playing Resident Evil 6 with me on this last Wednesday as we finished Leons campaign together. We will have to look through some of the steam sales to see what some other co op games are on sale. I bought the gold edition for Tom Clancy's The Division 2 and I played a little bit and enjoyed it.

"I swear, this time i'll limit the amount of money i spend on this sale-"
>ends up buying 16 games with 2.5 times the amount of money I planned to use.

NOT AGAIN!

I regret nothing though.

EDIT: Aaaaand 7 more games in deep discounts bought. I decided to stop at 23 in total since it's my lucky number.

Somebody should calculate how many Steam games you would have to buy to make up for the price difference between a base PS5 and a Steam Machine, compared to buying the same games on PS5. Since the Steam Machine's closest match in performance is the base PS5.
For one, the prices in sales are not up to steam, that's the publisher's discretion. Also, they are mostly the same price when it comes to sales, physicals can go even lower than the lowest digital sale price provided physical for that game exists.

PC gamers just have this illusion of getting a deal (compared to consoles) due to them not really exposed to competing eshops/stores.

I feel like steam sales have gotten worse over the years too. There used to be a lot more 75-90% discounts, and ridiculously cheap bundles. Maybe I'm imagining it.

Bought Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Special Edition so whenever or if I ever buy a Steam Deck/Machine that will be one of the first games to play as it's really good.

It's an unfair comparison because the poor PS5 can only run a tiny portion of the games that a Steam Machine can. The latter can run virtually the entire Switch 1 library via emulation, for example, plus just about every PC game ever made. It can also emulate just about every other non-PS5 game ever made via emulation (and don't worry, the few PS5 exclusives left will eventually be available via PC emulation/translation layers). Plus you don't have to pay a monthly Sony tax to play games online with the Steam Machine. The value proposition is clearly in the Steam Machine's favor.

It's just that you can do so much better in the PC space than the underperforming and mostly un-upgradeable Steam Machine.

Let's see. I'm on PC and I can buy direct from the publisher, from GOG, from Amazon.com, from Epic, Steam, Microsoft... Remind us PC gamers: How many competing eshops do Sony Playstation customers get to choose from again? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Of course my favorite eshop that I get astonishing deals from is Fit Girl. Sony cannot match her prices, nor her selection. You have to admit ertaboy356b, that's some illusion that I am operating under!

You'd obviously have to cherry pick games that the PS5 can also run, I think that's doable. The question is just whether there's much to save on PC, if anything at all. People say the PS5 has good sales but I haven't seen any detailed comparisons. Honestly the Steam Machine need not even be a part of the equation, I haven't really seen any detailed comparisons either way, but I just thought comparing any money saved against the upfront cost of the Steam Machine might make it more interesting.
Free online is a big value add though, I'll give you that.

That's my favorite game store too, what a coincidence :P
