Hi everyone!

I’m happy to share my Nintendo Switch port/wrapper of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II.

This is a wrapper/port of the Android version of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II for the Nintendo Switch.

GitHub / Download:
https://github.com/boraeskicioglu/s4ep2-nx

Important:
This release does not include any game assets, APK, OBB, or original game code.
You need to legally own the Android version of Sonic 4 Episode II and provide the required files yourself.

Required game files:
You will need the APK and OBB files from version 3.0.0 of the Android release.

From the APK/OBB, you need:

  • lib/arm64-v8a/libfox.so
  • The full assets/ folder from the APK
  • The main OBB file, renamed to data.obb

Installation:

  1. Create this folder on your SD card:
    sdmc:/switch/s4ep2/
  2. Create an assets folder:
    sdmc:/switch/s4ep2/assets/
  3. Copy libfox.so to:
    sdmc:/switch/s4ep2/libfox.so
  4. Copy the contents of the APK's assets/ folder to:
    sdmc:/switch/s4ep2/assets/
  5. Copy your OBB file to the assets folder and rename it to:
    sdmc:/switch/s4ep2/assets/data.obb
  6. Copy s4ep2_nx.nro to:
    sdmc:/switch/s4ep2/

Notes:

  • This port will not work in applet mode / Album mode.
  • Please launch the Homebrew Menu using a game override by holding R while starting any installed game, or use a forwarder.
  • Save data, config, and debug log are stored in:
    sdmc:/switch/s4ep2/
  • The Episode 1 lock-on feature / Metal Sonic content is unlocked by default.
  • Resolution can be configured through config.txt, which is created on first launch.

Credits:

  • fgsfds for max_nx and ct_nx, which this loader is heavily based on.
  • TheOfficialFloW for the original Vita Android .so loading technique.
  • David Reid for dr_mp3.
  • Sean Barrett for stb_vorbis.

Thank you so much for the port, just finished it yesterday since I saw your tweet from a few days ago! Ep 2 was indeed much better than I remembered and had very interesting design choices for the different routes, mostly focused on the tag team moves. I believe that if it had been called Advance 4, Sonic The Portable (the original plan) or just something akin to New Super Mario Bros., it wouldn't be nearly as hated.

I wanted to ask about sound-related issues. The jingle for getting an extra life loops endlessly ONLY when beating a special stage. The title screen's jingle bugs out and restarts half-way when booting the game. Super Sonic's theme doesn't loop at all so once it completes, you either get the regular level music (an improvement imo) or dead silence. Lastly, none of the stages' music loop properly, meaning that once they end they start from the very beginning.

I just wanted to ask if all of these are known or if it's an issue with my game assets.
