Is there an easy way to tell which retro games are ports v/s which are just ROMs in an emulator, maybe something like an online list? I don't like supporting money grabs but dedicated ports are always welcome.

Usually people cracking a PC release is the quickest way to find out if it's emulated or not. Not sure if there is such a list, but I think the only recent games I've heard being emulated was the old Metal Gear Solid lineup.
