About: Based in the Mobile Suit Gundam universe, Kidou Senshi Gundam: Senjo no Kizuna Portable is a compact version of the arcade battle game.

Note: This will only work with ppsspp. This is just a texture replacement

Hello everyone! I have decided to make a translation of Gundam kizuna after getting tired of googling lensing all the menus. This translation is mostly anything that i could pull out of using the texture extraction on the ppsspp. So the patch is pretty much a texture replacement There is still much to translate and lots of stuff that requires more hacking, but i am satisfied with what i have translated and made the game very playable in English. I probably wont continue working on this and wanted to share this for the people that wanted to play this game. The patch also seems to work with the ppsspp socom servers too.

this patch works only on emulator?

this patch works only on emulator?
Correct. It only works with ppssps texture replacement system it has. Not sure if physical has something similar.

The original thread trying to edit the game went dead around 2024. Texture replacement was the only way I found to translate the game since I'm not a programmer or hacker.

The file format (REGFILE.RZP/RFB) seems to be related to lord of arcana's file structure (also uses REGFILE.RZP/RZL). might as well check the script in quickbms website @UnknownAssassin
Yep. Some one already did that in the original topic

They couldn't really do anything with the files and later got some people to assist them but then dissipeared.

Slight update. After poking at the extracted files i have figured out what a few files do.

First i unpacked the game using UMDgen and grabbed both RFB and RZP files in updata.

then i extract the files i used quickbms and used the lords of arcana bms and edited the file and replaced all instances of RZL to RFB. This extracted all the files TEX,ANM,MNU,NUB,BIN,PRM and a bunch of other files.

.nub files are pretty much its sound files. I used https://archive.org/details/NUBExt_R12beta to separate all the sound files and then use vgstream to decode the sound files to be able to update. This one isnt really too important in translation but pretty neat.

the biggest one i found are where the pictures are located. all the .tex files are actually xettex files.
it can be opened with a xet viewer, but the person has stopped working on it 6 years ago so all it does is view it. If anyone can code and make it extract/repack. This could make actual patching work. As i said before im not a programmer or hacker so this info might help someone who ends up really translating.

Hi Pegi here from life bottle productions, we did a bunch of work a while ago on this but moved on to other projects, pretty sure every format was reversed by our dear programmer Ethanol and we also have a lot of the translation

Here's the little server where we did some work
https://discord.gg/NruvUapV4

Here's the google sheet with the game text https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mIuBU5cP69Qet3o3h-6R-Iu9_GoEr8JBmDsdprWIUgc/edit?usp=sharing
Hey! Thanks for the reply and the update. I'm not quite sure I want to take on the project since I'm satisfied with what I've done to play but also I'm just a average Joe who doesn't doesn't program. If I get interested I'll check it out and see if I can do anything to assist.

Also thank you guys for your hard work on the tales games! Y'all were the reason I got into/able to play a lot of the jp only tales especially NDX and RM2

The person named sirgouki that was linked from another gbatemp post is also part of that server, I gathered everybody back then to that little server. I'm pretty sure the patch we had had about half that game text translated. We also did some graphics and were able to put them back into the game.

I was trying to work on this because I used to play a lot of this back in japan in the arcades.

Here's the name of one of the font that was used in the game if you want to be more accurate with your edits:
DFZongYi-GBOtf-W7.otf = Main menu text in japanese and english like (press Start button)
DFHei-GBOtf-W9.otf = Font with pointy A
DFHei-GBOtf-W12.otf == Bold version of font with the pointy A

There's no problem if you are satisfied but honestly I would love to have the graphic you edit be saved on that server so that we could one day put it in a real patch for the rest of the people playing on hardware. The beauty of these projects and also of a lot of what we did at life bottle is that it's a culmination of all the little work everybody did through the years that eventually end up being a final patch.

Ethanol our programmer did have some tools made for it back then but when I asked him where they were it seems they were misplaced or lost sadly.

Thanks! We are hard at work on a few projects (too many) so that's why we never committed to this project after Rebirth picked back up. We are very advanced on Twin Brave and NDX and maybe Fandom vol1 and 2 and some other stuff

Glad to see someone else is interested in this. Yeah, on my end life went to crap, and I had to step away for a while. I know someone was going to school too, and the rest of the group were working on Lord of Arcana at the time. Someone pinged me with a link to this, and I *am* interested in finishing what we started though, so we'll see.

Edit: I believe we had a python script around somewhere to repack everything. If I still have it it'll be on my old desktop. When I get some time I'll dig it out and see if I still have it. I was working on a program to replace the XetteX viewer too.
