Xbox to increase in price again in August, Series S set to hit $500

Remember when you could get an Xbox Series S for $300? Those were the days. Microsoft has today announced the latest in their console price hikes, seeing their once-affordable system now exceed what the more powerful Series X cost at launch. Set to come into effect on the first of August, you can find an overview of the increases below:
  • Xbox Series S (512GB): $399 ➜ $499 (25% Increase)
  • Xbox Series S (1TB): $449 ➜ $599 (33% Increase)
  • Xbox Series X (1TB Digital): $599 ➜ $749 (25% Increase)
  • Xbox Series X (1TB): $649 ➜ $799 (23% Increase)
In their press release, Microsoft shine a light on the state of the industry, noting that games consoles are being hit particularly hard on the back of them typically being sold at a loss out of the gate. With less headroom to eat costs, they're inevitably passed onto consumers. With Microsoft expecting another doubling of storage and memory prices by fall of 2027, future price increases also seem likely.

Nintendo Switch 2 is still $450, btw. And it has some physical games now.
oh by the way, when the price hike does go into effect in September, it'll be $500, so consumers will be ethier going for ethier a brand new nintendo console that's a year old.... or a heavily gimpped Xbox Series X for the same exact price point.

they should have seen the warning signs when they saw how lacking her xbox profile was

Its not like people were buying Xbox anyways but they are purposefully doing this just to tank the gaming industry. Humans dont matter anymore. Giving freebies to AI is more important than humans having things.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is stated to go up from $449 to $499 in September. So that's more fun.

We just need to break the pillars holding up this ugly foundation.

Switch 2 is next. I don't know how they're holding on to just a $50 increase -- I think it'll go even higher.

Guys, I don't think ppl here realize how apocalyptic the market is for home computing right now. Keep seeing people blame individual companies for greed when I'm sure Xbox knows well this is going to crater the already pitiful hardware sales they have. Every hardware manufacturer knows they are hurting sales. They just have no choice if they don't want to sell at a loss. You can subsidize a little bit, but if you're already a distant 3rd place (as Xbox is), you can't subsidize the entirety of a massive increase in RAM and storage costs.

It's still shocking to see 5 year old hardware jump 2/3rds in price though.

Xbox is a dead brand anyways. Anything these Microsoft people touch turns to scrap. All they sell now is nostalgia

This is not fucking normal. 6+ year old hardware getting 2/3 price increases is insane.

How can anyone justify it? Honestly. Fucking let the entire industry crash as this point.
Entire home computing industry is crashing as we speak. It just doesn't matter because AI margins are worth far more to the companies involved. Sad stuff.

I hate AI and data centers so much everything would still be at normal prices if data centers weren't buying all the ram stock :gun:
