Grand Theft Auto VI pre orders go live tomorrow, physical release limited to code in box

The delays may be behind us, but the news isn't all good for Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar have today announced that pre-orders for the game will go live tomorrow, on the 25th of June. Those who pre-order will get the Vintage Vice City Pack, a small throwback to one of their older titles. With the game launching on the 19th of November, fans will be able to start their pre-loads a full week early to ensure there's enough time to get things ready. So what's the bad news here? As you've probably seen from the title, there's no true physical release planned for the game. The retail version will instead feature a code in the box, being available to buy at the same time as pre-loads going live.

Rockstar also announced an Ultimate Edition for the game, throwing in an assortment of "vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action" for those willing to spend big. Barring further delays, the game will be available to play on the 19th of November.

Is it to prevent early leaks?
Maybe there will be a physical disc version for collectors in the future.
I bought the digital version of GTA5. Isn't it great? No need to insert the disc every time.

It's apparently five whole stores including clothing and the hair salon locked behind the ultimate edition. Technically just cosmetic stuff, but a lot of it, and all things that were in the base single-player content for previous entries.
"Sara's Unisex Salon - Only open for business with the Ultimate Edition."
I'll just use not-Sara's Sex Salon then.

I would've only gotten 6 once it made it to PC, but with your typical PC online woes of hackers building Voltrons out of aircraft carries and carpet bombing maps using airplane models - I'll just pirate the story mode, beat it once, and happily delete it.

Just your tech boom irony - back when we had physical media, we lusted for convenience of digital copies, and now its vice versa.

Guarantee you that some dumb executive thought the inability to resell would ensure more sales,
that's exactly the reason why they're going with game keys/codes, well apart from saving on BR disc costs etc, this is just another form of drm basically.. they should be ashamed of themselves sp at that price point.

If the fanboys of this would have just allowed Saint's Row to continue being its own thing, it might well have continued being a series and I wouldn't have to pay attention to this game at all.

The Houser brothers are taking all of the piss with this move. It's at least as bad as CoD not even bothering to program a campaign anymore, because at a 300GB install size, is especially painful given Sam Altman is trying to make it impossible to afford anything anymore.

Worst is this special edition shit, which is just cosmetic or stuff which is already ingame... Just unlocked if you pay extra... I know other games do this since years, but sad that Rockstar one of my fav devs starting this shit too.
They wanted to charge $100 for this game and they found a way to do it.

well i was excited about this game but now i dont even care!!!
without a disk for me to physically have in my collection rockstar can kick rocks as far as i am concerned
just so stupid to have download only.

I'll bet this is a sign that the PS6 will be download or streaming only, if that is the case i am done with Playstation
shoot i didnt even bother with a PS5 and i am glad i didnt waste my money.

Should also mention there is no upgrade to the ultimate edition. If you buy the normal version you'd have to pay for the game again to get ultimate

Nah, mandatory day one updates already took care of that. It's just to save a few bucks and prevent people from buying it used.

Not sure what you're trying to say here, the vast majority of salons and haircut places are unisex. Even places like Sports Clips that market themselves exclusively toward men aren't gonna turn away a woman's money.

lol it's the same thing with extra steps, they close the eshop and now you don't have a """DOOR""" for those """KEY""" cards
Correction. Nintendo has never shutdown a console eShop downloads. Only ever disabled billing and buying of content. You can still redownload all your old DSI and WiiWare stuff you bough prior.

Yeah, No. The only way I'm ever spending more than $20 on a digital-only game, is if they give us some way to resell them on a blockchain or something. I'll just wait a couple of years for a sale, a physical release, or sail the seven seas lol.

lmao, I'm saying R* can keep their "exclusive to X edition" cosmetics to themselves.

For real? i thought they shutdown downloads too for 3ds and wii u and what's before, that's freaking neat tbqh, doesn't change the fact you'll have to download the game, like you own it on software only
