I made a small PSP plugin called BrightKey.
It changes the original PSP brightness button into a smoother, more modern-style brightness control.
Main features
Hold the brightness / screen button to continuously adjust brightness
When it reaches the maximum or minimum level, it stops automatically
Release the button and hold it again to adjust in the opposite direction
Works in games, homebrew, emulators, and the XMB if enabled in game.txt and vsh.txt
No button combinations needed, only the original PSP brightness button
The minimum brightness is limited to a safe value, so the backlight will not turn off completely
The idea is very simple: replace the original 4-step PSP brightness cycle with a smoother one-button control.
I tested it on real PSP hardware, and it feels much more natural to use, especially when switching between the XMB, games, and emulators.
Current version: BrightKey Guardian v1.01
The “Guardian” part means that if the PSP system tries to change the brightness when entering or exiting a game, the plugin will automatically restore the brightness value saved by BrightKey.
It is just a small plugin, but I think it makes the PSP feel a little more modern. There are no complicated features and no button combinations that I personally dislike. It simply takes over the original system brightness button and makes it more comfortable to use.
Please make sure you are not using any other brightness plugins before installing it, to avoid possible conflicts or serious bugs.

How to use
Copy BrightKey.prx to your PSP memory stick:
ms0:/seplugins/BrightKey.prx
Enable it in game.txt if you want to use it in games, homebrew, and emulators:
ms0:/seplugins/BrightKey.prx 1
Enable it in vsh.txt if you want to use it in the XMB system menu:
ms0:/seplugins/BrightKey.prx 1
Restart your PSP, or restart VSH.
