i did some very stupid things, which resulted in me making a new emunand and losing all my progress on games i had on the old emunand 😭

question is, does it make sense to try putting the sd card in software such as recuva to try and restore the save?
are emunand saves even stored on the sd card?

thanks, and sorry for the possibly stupid question!

Your saves were on the emuNAND partition, which you overwrote.
Data recovery is much more difficult on flash storage due to wear leveling built into the controller firmware. Once the master file table is lost (overwritten) you are pretty much SoL. The best you're usually going to get are recognized file types like images that are smaller than 64 KB (or whatever the cluster size of the partition was). Because the data is not contiguous so it has no idea which 64 KB chunks of data belong together.
Add to that the fact that the emuNAND partition is encrypted, so there is nothing recognizable by a data recovery program, making it basically impossible to recover even a single file when the data isn't contiguous.
