Ps2 not showing HDD games

I'm using HDL batch install currently, and it's installing the games to the HDD, it may take a bit so I'd suggest watching the thread until I give an update for when it's done, though do let me know if there's anything else I should be aware of

Update, none of the games showed up in OPL.. :/ was there something I missed? I'm kinda out in the woods here I was just told to use HDL
Did you follow this guide?

https://www.psx-place.com/threads/ps2-hdd-setup-in-2022-master-guide-warning-very-long.38615/

Granted it's a bit dated, but I used this guide back in 2024 (iirc) when I was dicking around with the hard drive stuff.

I do not recommend method B as it is not a one-size-fits-all.

Okay wait. GPT and exFat aren't working at all? Nor is HDL Batch Install working either? At this point I'd follow the PSBBN install guide for use with 3rd party SATA adapter. I can't tell you to put PSBBN on your HDD because you're not using an OEM adapter with a SATA mod installed.

The install guide for 3rd party adapters will instead let you load up OPL from a cold boot if I'm not saying something stupid.

I did not, I just used HDL as you told me to do, I'll try this guide but not at the moment, I need a break from this as just from skimming the guide it's a lot to take in

I can't even tell if I did something wrong with either method so I don't know I'm just following what I'm being told to do, running into an issue then trying something else im suggested and it's admittedly a bit all over the place.

About PSBBN, I own a OEM adapter but do not have the sata mod cable thing, as they weren't being sold on Kaico labs' site, I was told by sylverez in a different thread to look on aliexpress for one since they probably have some left in stock, but if I'm being so honest at this point I really don't even know what I'm doing anymore, I'm so lost.

Do the SATA mod. If with a SATA modded OEM adapter you still have issues, then the HDD is at fault.

The recommended method is to get a Sony IDE network adapter, then use a generally-good SATA adapter in place of the IDE one.

You can use Kaico, BitFunx or whatever other white labels they like to use - just don't use unbranded adapters.

If you're using a GameStar adapter (not able to use modem / ethernet ports - has a warning peel on them), you're gonna run into unexpected issues.

If you have any other questions, we may be able to help you, so feel free to ask.

The guide you sent, it looks to be a guide on installing fmcb as well as installing apps, opl, and using HDL, am I supposed to start entirely from scratch or is there a specific part of that guide I'm supposed to be looking at?

Entirely from scratch.

You don't need FreeHDBoot if you already have a memory card set up, and can't use it if you have a 50K model.

tl;dr Format the hard drive using the PS2 in wLaunchELF, install games using HDL Batch Installer, use OPL, profit??

I'm unsure so don't quote me on this, but I think you need to use a specific fork of OPL if you want to use exFAT.[/ispoiler]

First, I recommend trying a different HDD with the network adapter. There's a chance the 3rd party adapter just doesn't like your HDD.

I've also had 3rd party adapters blow fuses.

There are 2 fuses for powering the HDD. If the HDD spins up but doesn't load, or isn't detected at all, that may mean that 1 or 2 of the fuses needs replaced. You can identify these fuses by the '50' or 'S3' marking on them. Using a multimeter while the system is powered off, you can check the fuses for continuity.

//Exfat only
EDIT:
Check if the hdd is supported by wLaunchELF - misc - hddmanager.
HDD status connected: yes
(wLaunchELF doesn‘t support internal exfat)

The latest official opl does not support exfat for internal hdd.
EDIT2: Maybe internal exfat support(?)
https://github.com/ps2homebrew/Open-PS2-Loader/releases/tag/latest

There is a BETA 1.2.0 release available here
https://github.com/rickgaiser/Open-PS2-Loader/releases

only the outdated exfat fork by grimdoomer
https://github.com/grimdoomer/Open-PS2-Loader/releases

For exfat support the hdd has to be formatted with default cluster size (128kb).
Sector size is not the same as cluster size, sector size has to be 512 (512e) not 4k (advanced format).

Check your hdd from an elevated cmd prompt (windows)
(change x with the drive letter)
fsutil fsinfo sectorInfo x:

LogicalBytesPerSector : 512
PhysicalBytesPerSectorForAtomicity : 4096
PhysicalBytesPerSectorForPerformance : 4096

This hdd will not work (4k sectors)
LogicalBytesPerSector : 4096
PhysicalBytesPerSectorForAtomicity : 4096
PhysicalBytesPerSectorForPerformance : 4096

(Linux)
sudo fdisk -l /dev/sdx

Disk /dev/sda: 150.3 GB, 150323855360 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 18275 cylinders, total 293601280 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 4096 bytes
