Pokemon Platinum PC port gets a surprise release

platpc.jpg

Seemingly out of nowhere a PC port for Pokemon Platinum has surfaced online, bundled alongside the source code for those interested in building and developing it for themselves. The game in its current state appears to be fully playable with only minor graphical bugs noticed in my few minutes of playing, not requiring any kind of ROM or additional setup to get started.

The readme file in the source code download outlines a full list of features:

Feature List said:
  • Graphics
    • Internal resolution of the 3D graphics can be increased throught the config file. By default this is 10x.
    • A 60fps patch is enabled by default with some speed fixes, though some things will still be double speed
    • There may be some graphical issues with the 3D
    • Screen layout can be adjusted through the config file or IMGUI
  • Audio
  • Touchscreen (simulated with mouse)
  • Both the PC port and the NDS ROM can be built and debugged from the same source tree
  • Playing the game from start to finish
  • Poketch
  • Battle frontier
  • Contests
  • Debug features (this build by deafault has PM_DEBUG turned on)
  • IMGUI (press TAB)
  • Saving
    • The save file is just the raw data that would be written through SDK backup APIs, and is currently not compatible with emulators.
  • Local multiplayer over LAN or internet (press tab and select NET in the IMGUI)
    • Union Room
    • Underground
    • Local multiplayer is over port 2009. You can port forward or use a VPN like hamachi to play over the internet
  • Some WiFi features (WiFi plaza, WiFi club, GTS is only partially supported and has bugs)
    • Voice chat (libVCT) is NOT supported
    • By deafault, the Poke Classic DNS is used. You can go to the wifi settings from the main menu of the game to change to whatever DNS you want.
    • In my testing, I was able to trade and battle with a real DS using the WiFi club but it is very finnicky and can be difficult to get both devices to connect to each other

The port is available to download via Archive.org for both Windows and Linux users, though with me not being certain where it stands in terms of larger legality and it including all of the original game's assets, I won't be providing the link. In line with the site's rules, I'd ask people refrain from sharing or requesting such links in the comments below.

Can people Stop beeing je**s? Who cares what i use or not to generate my pfps? Get a job!
For personal use, once in a while is fine. It’s NOT fine when you’re using them to replace actual people like a job or something. And it’s perfectly fine to say jerks. It’s not a curse word. Even if it was, fuck them.

in case anybody else couldn't figure out all the controls easily lol

A: Z
B: X
X: C
Y: V
L: Q
R: W
Start: Enter
Select: Right Shift
dpad directions: arrow keys

Are there ports of the other Gen IV games yet? I'd love to Cute Charm shiny farm. My 3DS' SD card died and I lost a bunch of shinies.

It's not "bad", it's BAD. This gets notoriety, and we end up with Nintendo and other companies having an actual case to go after actual, honest compilations. This is a fuck up, sticking it to the big bad company doesn't mean being a jackass is allowed.
This is correct take, I don't think a lot of people grasp how bad of an idea this all is... People need to get past the hump of "want, need, play now" and consider even a month into the future and the future of these sort of projects.

The only viable way for these project to be valid is to use proper decomps as a base, and in all sectors for devs to watch their asses properly and not jump headfirst into avenues that'll screw everyone in the long run.

(Sadly this is a pretty common thing in communities like emulation or decomps, while a lot of devs don't have this mindset a lot of users struggle to grasp why projects are handled the way they are. Their mind is in today, not tomorrow and the future sustainability)

Praying this doesn't cause some horrid precedent that screws us all over.

Too scared to post the repository link, huh?

To the disappointed readers of the website: The address to the Archive.org are the first four words of the title of this post, just look for it on Whack-a-Hack

I'm hoping for 3 things out of this. 1, that we get some insane rom hacks. 2, they can make it so we can split the screens across two windows and make them widescreen. 3, that it is ported to android so I can enjoy it on the Thor. Tysm original poster. Hopefully the code drops soon so the wizards can do their thing.

The game assets are included.
Ethically there's no difference between linking to this port, or simply attaching the rom to a post on the forums.

If we can at least get the fixes for the bugs and graphical effects and the in-game activation of events and mystery gifts would already be awesome.

You are in GBAtemp, ethics mean absolutely nothing here when it comes to piracy. Being dead scared of a C&D, now that's a different story.

Well, making excuses for piracy is worse than piracy. I don't want sob stories about this company's bad business practices, or that game has become too expensive because scalpers

I don't even think a game being out of print / production, and not available for purchase is an excuse to pirate it, I think it's a completely valid reason.
No sob stories here.

This isn't a matter of piracy but actual theft, those assets weren't taken from a rom, the code with wich the PC version was built was taken from the teraleak, wich makes it an actual stolen assets.

You fuckers never stopped to understand why, for example, Ensata was never used as a DS emulator, or why emulators exist in the first place and using either HL BIOSes or ripping your own BIOS is a thing, right?

No, of course you fucking dont.

The multibillion dollar corporation can do just fine without you defending them.

At what point were these assets removed from the possession of the developers?

This is copyright infringement, not theft.

This release comes with the actual source code taken directly from the Game Freak servers.
