Dragon Quest 12 re-announced alongside new Dragon Quest Monsters title during 40th anniversary broadcast

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Dragon Quest series, a short presentation was released on the official Dragon Quest channel. Alongside a nice recap of the series thus far, the presentation featured two notable titles: Dragon Quest 12 and a new Dragon Quest Monsters game. Though originally announced back in 2021 during a very similar broadcast celebrating the series' 35th anniversary, Dragon Quest 12 hit various snags in production, leading the team to completely restart the project. During that transition, the tagline was changed from The Flames Of Fate to what it is now, Beyond Dreams. A short trailer gives a glimpse of some of the main cast as well as the larger world.

Towards the end of the presentation, a new entry to the Dragon Quest Monsters series was also announced, revealed to be titled "The Withered World". It'll be coming to Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, and is set to release ahead of Dragon Quest 12.

Though not a part of this presentation, a trailer was separately uploaded to the Dragon Quest YouTube channel announcing a Switch 2 release of Dragon Quest 11 S' Definitive Edition. Those who already own the Nintendo Switch release should not get too excited however, with this version not having any kind of upgrade path available, and the physical release confirmed to be via Game Key Card. It is at least launching soon though, with the date confirmed to be the 24th of September.

Wait a sec...I just read that DQXI Switch 2 Edition cannot be obtain with a simple upgrade and you cannot either transfer your save....
And the switch 1 version has a discount now ? It's so vicious....Even for you Square...
They're not the first to do it (Koei Tecmo and SEGA had games in a similar boat when the Switch 2 launched) but it still sucks to see.

Toriyama and Sugiyama did work on the game before their deaths. This protagonist was designed by him.
Didn't they scrapped the entirety of DQ12 though based on the video?

Edit: so apparently, it's still a Toriyama game. It's just weird that they gave the protagonist droopy eyes. I guess we will see if the human and the lizard are one and the same.

Edit 2: Now that I think about it, the droopy eyes is not weird at all. It's all from lack of good sleep and dreaming!!!

Don't like the look for the characters. I guess with toriyama's death they probably scraped alot of what they originally had.

I am excited for the new DQW though
As other people pointed out, Toriyama was involved with character design

But watch his later stuff, particularly db super

You will notice his art style shifted a lot, and he made characters with softer features. This guy would fit into super quite well

I've recently gotten into buying and playing some DQ games, but I can't stand the British voices so I just change to Japanese.

Why couldn't they do an American dub?

When people picture something medieval, american accents don't really fit tbh.

I think we may have a real vs dream world thing. With that monster being our protagonist in the dream world.

I have too much of it 🤣 and the digital 3ds version

Um, aren't you British??
Nah, and even if I were it's just weird to hear anime characters with a British accent.

Yes, but in comparison they sound "neutral".

I'm kinda glad most of the responses to this are cynical and negative. Dragon Quest makes more money than it deserves; riding on the coattails of its greatness from a fargone era

No upgrade for the S2?! Ha, stuck in the 30 fps realm forever, DQ11! Is the S version on the PS5 version 60fps?
There's a toggle between graphics and performance. I think I read it was 1440/30 vs 1080/60 but I can't remember where I saw that part.

Because brits have class.
Edit: (compared to Americans, of course, not in general.)
