Can someone port Sonic 3 A.I.R. to the Wii U? Surprised it hasn't yet, as it went open source in October 2021

Hello and thanks for the updates! In a future release, could you please name the modded versions differently from the vanilla ones? This would allow them to coexist and make it easier to choose between the different versions.

Thanks for the feedback! I was planning on using Sonic 1 Forever and Sonic 2 Absolute's pc icons for the wii u menu instead of the mobile icons so it would be easier to tell, but i hadn't got around to it. I'm working on implementing OpenGL support in Wii U builds with my custom OpenGL 3.3 Core implementation for the Wii U's graphics API (GX2). Expect a small qol update soon, some updates on gx2gl, and further completion on Sonic 3 A.I.R.

Thank you for your work; I’m looking forward to trying all of this. Changing the icon is a good step, but I believe changing the title is essential for usability. I can handle this myself if you’d like—to save me the compilation time, I would just need the .rpx file and the icons to get it done.

the compilation itself is honestly trivial on windows. i can compile in less then 5 seconds. Anyway, if you want to customize it, the rpx files are in ci every push :)
every wuhb needs the metadata.txt file inside it, so they know where to go.
example for Sonic 1:
title=Sonic 1
game=RSDKv4
source=Sonic 1
game_folder=Sonic1
pack_time=2026-04-17T05:08:19Z

it goes in the apps/RSDKv4_Sonic1
(you don't need to edit pack_time, thats only so i can make sure new builds happened)

can you share your logfile? if you're using my fork
I don't think it provides any useful information; it's not a crash, just a black screen. I can still return to the Wii U menu with the home button. Maybe I have the file paths in the wrong place, I don't know, I've already tried many things

it does. usually when that happens your data.rsdk is invalid, it couldn't load a critical file, or something went wrong with loading a mod (if you have the mod versions)

I've never heard of udplogserver on Wii U before, although maybe I have the files in the wrong place. Can you tell me where the rsdk file goes on the SD card?
create a folder on the root of your sd card. Sonic 1's folder is named Sonic1 (no space) and Sonic 2's folder is named Sonic2. put their rsdks in their appropriate folders. they both have separate folders at the root of sd

Oh, I see, I had the Rsdk folders in the Wii U apps folder

Thanks, it works perfectly now, you're the best!

sorry to all the people patiently waiting for sonic 3 air on the wii u, currently im dealing with the codebase being absolutely atrocious to view and its stopped me from pushing the code to git for a while, so im moving it to my other fork of sonic3air which i had been working on for some time.
https://github.com/Act-One/sonic3air-plus
the source will be here once i merge the code successfully, but after that and some optimizations i think we're done!
(CMake support!)
also the act one discord is here, im making a bunch of other wii u tooling (like gx2gl becoming open source and.. functional!) and srb2, sa2, and more. If you want the latest and greatest updates I post regularly in the discord!

Prerelease for s3air will be here too

I personally would love to see Sonic CD ported to the Saturn or Dreamcast. Saturn because I'm a MiSTer owner, but the Dreamcast is much more capable and a much easier time.
you should ask the dev thats working on mania. i dont have a dreamcast but i'd try if i had one, but i talked to him and asked if s1/2 was possible and he said he was told its not.. so i don't know
(RSDK)

That's funny because I just seen on Twitter the other week a Japanese dude who's creating an (alleged) from scratch recreation of Sonic CD on Saturn

He seems a bit odd though and wasn't super fond of all the attention it was getting lol

Like my last sentence stated: "I would do it myself, but I don't know a damn thing that I'm doing when it comes to this kind of stuff lol."

Having said that, I would gladly comission someone to port the source code and get it playable on the Wii U. It may not be much, but I'd throw down upwards of $50 to the first person to do it.
hey where's my money man
(im joking you dont have to pay me)

there's weirdly not any native sonic decomp ports on the saturn, i looked for quite a bit sometime after getting my saroo, and i was shocked to not see any especially since recently there's been a big trend with sonic on the sega saturn but alot of them are just mods on various PC ports, i've read some threads on the SRB2 forum and most chalk things up to it not being possible due to hardware limitations, which i can't see that being a barrier for some ports, while some others i can.
