Hey everyone,
For Initial D’s 30th anniversary, we worked on a full Chinese fan translation of Initial D: Street Stage (PSP). While doing that, I realized there’s still no real English patch out there… so I figured, there might be people interested in it as well?
Since I already built all the tools and scripts for the Chinese patch, a lot of the heavy lifting is done: unpacking/repacking, text + texture compiling, a plugin for variable-width fonts, and even a plugin to implement in-game voice subtitles. English now actually looks clean now, which was a big hurdle.
I’ve thrown together a demo patch for testing (works on PPSSPP and real PSP). Right now it covers menus, dialogs, card descriptions, voice subtitles, and some textures that can be auto-generated. It’s far from polished — text gets cut off sometimes due to length limits, and some graphics are still not in English — but it’s playable. You’ll need the JP v1.01 ISO to patch it.
If anyone is interested in making an English patch,
If this project sounds fun to you, or you just want to help bring an English version of this classic PSP title to life, let me know!
Would be awesome to finally have a proper English version of Street Stage for everyone who still loves drifting on PSP.

Where I could use help:
- Text editing/proofreading: I used Gemini Pro to get a quick baseline translation (~100k words). It’s decent for testing, but definitely needs cleanup so it reads naturally and fits on screen. If you’re familiar with Initial D terms/names, even better.
- Image editing: The game has ~1000 2D images with Japanese text. About 800 can be auto-generated, but ~200 need manual editing. Luckily we kept all the PSDs from the Chinese patch, so it’s pretty straightforward if you’re into graphics work.
What’s Already Done
- Complete unpacking, editing, and repacking workflow.
- Tools for auto-compiling text and textures.
- Scripts for generating most of the textures with Japanese.
- Plugin for ASCII encoding support and variable-width font rendering (so English looks clean on screen).
- Plugin for in-game voice subtitles.
- Demo Eng patch already working on PPSSPP and real PSPs.
