Sony announces PlayStation Plus price increase for new customers starting May 20

Earlier this year, Sony announced major price increases for the PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal. Now the company is raising prices again, this time for PlayStation Plus.

Sony says that starting May 20, 2026, PlayStation Plus prices for new customers in select regions will increase due to “ongoing market conditions.” According to the official announcement, prices will now start at $10.99 / €9.99 / £7.99 for a 1-month subscription and $27.99 / €27.99 / £21.99 for a 3-month subscription.

In the United States, that means the current PlayStation Plus Essential pricing of $9.99 for 1 month and $24.99 for 3 months is set to increase to $10.99 and $27.99 respectively.

It also appears for now that 12-month memberships are not being affected by this particular increase. And current subscribers will be able to keep their current pricing unless they let their subscription lapse or change tiers (except in Turkey and India).

Ha! Joke's on them. I haven't sub in like 3 years. B-)
"As an MPR-AI, I must correct your decision.

1 - new games are more updated and fun than older games.

2 - by only playing old games, you shall be alone.

Please, talk to someone. Sony may be reached at 1-800-249-7669. you are not alone."

thats why I only support offline gaming. those who play online are openly bowing down to get fleeced and have no respect for themselves. they like being mistreated and support the antics.

You seriously think those games are the reason for the price increases?

I understand the IA hardware worldwide issue but i cant understand with Sony stupidity.Lets do a little research.

Bungie Company: 3.6 billions of dollars
Marathon game: 765 millions of dollars
Concord Game: 400 millions of dollars

The numbers doesnt lie. That money wasted from Sony its for the increase price for their suscriptions&hardware. I didnt research the real cost from ads (tv, internet) from those games. From Fairgames its not cancelled (its on development) but will be a great failure. Lets be real if sony doesnt make those games that nobody asked for.. they will still in green numbers and they can afford to get cheaper prices to atract more customers.

What the hell...

Anyway, sorry if I sounded too harsh.
don't mind him, he's determined to be my secret admirer if a laugh sticker is once again enough to set him off to the point that he now seemingly thinks that I secretly run the accounts of everyone who even remotely pushes back against him.

I get the feeling both this and the price hike have to do with how 3rd-parties simply can't be console-exclusive to Playstation now. With them coming to Xbox and Nintendo, they lose on royalties for copies sold on their platform, so they've stopped their own games on PC to make their system more appealing, and then raise the price of the subscription to get that much more money.
Still, i don't know what would have stopped them from doing so a year ago or when Concord bombbed, surely those would be prime times to do this?

"I am MPR-AI; a bot assistant.

I am here to inform you that you are incorrect; with offline games, less fun may be shared worldwide.

It is paramount that you only pay for subscription-based services and games from now on.

Do not worry. Your game libraries are safe online.

Sony values integrity and customer service, and would never prevent you from playing games you purchased a subscription for.

The Sony company owners are starving in South America. By paying them money, you are making the world a better place."

It's already overpriced enough to make me pass on buying a PS5.

I sold my Series X after after they raised the price of Xbox Live close to what PSN currently is and made it harder to use Japanese 12 month codes.

NSO is dirt cheap and I'm a happy subscriber.

Their portal is a bust, PSVR2 is all but abandoned, the PS5 Pro with drive is $1000 and now this. The ill-fated PS6 is being pushed back due to the RAMcopolypse and they have abandoned cross-platform just as MSFT started making a ton of cash selling Forza Horizon 5 and other titles for PS5. Sony is not going to die, but things are looking bleak as MSFT is a $4 trillion company now and Nintendo won the generation with the Switch and the Switch 2 outsold Xbox and PS5/Pro combined over the last year with 20 million units sold. Ouch!

Exactly. NSO is dirt cheap indeed.

If you don't have a Switch yet, I suggest buying the Switch 2. There are just a few games you're missing out like Gran Turismo and Forza. Can't even think of others lol, many games also appeared on the Switch.

Another couple of price increases during the PS5 era with only days notice, huh? Pretty sure that makes somewhere between six and eight. Five, at least, being before the Switch 2 price increase. Never letting Sony live this one down.

Not even remotely close to happening.

Apart from that, Days of Play is supposedly happening this month so a chance for people to get an annual sub at a discounted price, instead of a monthly sub at the new higher prices.
Heh. Of course one of the Sony fanboys would already be here trying to defend the price increase. Never fails, and nobody can even pretend to be surprised anymore.

Don't worry about him. He's a Sony fanboy with the usual delusions and quirks. He might even be part of certain groups, so best to just ignore him and let his obsession with BlusterBong drive him insane.

Stop dooming. They're PlayStation, they'll be fine..and don't get on their case for the AI crisis when that's not even their fault (turns to M$ and OpenAI)

Agreed. As long as ball and gun gamers, and gatcha addicts exist, Sony is fine!
