The LCD is driven by an RP2040 microcontroller, which translates the RGB output from the GBC into something that the LCD can understand. The biggest hurdle is getting it to read cartridges, since it's smaller and the cartridge slot cannot fit into the final design because it is too long. He went and produced custom boards that attach to an M.2 slot; they have the same signal layout but are much smaller to fit flush with the case. Last but not least are the buttons: one nub on the top side as the D-pad for moving left, right, up, and down; and four extra buttons for START and SELECT plus the A and B buttons. I recommend you watch the full video so you can see it in action as well as to watch how it was developed.

Video too long

It plays actual cartridges? have a time stamp?
6:55 shows the cartridge in the form of an M.2 module in a JLCPCB sponsor segment, 20:58 shows the cartridge slot with the back cover being placed on.

It's only after the building of the watch that he shows Pokemon running. I can't find a segment afaik where he inserts the game cartridges in.

Sad

This is simultaneously the most stupid and coolest GBC mod. I'd wear it if I had one... along an actual watch that can show me time, and a GBC that has actually usable buttons :rofl2:
