After applying a widesreen ips patch to Xbox Original games, in order to get it to actually show as widescreen the resolution has to be changed in system settings to 480p with a normal aspect ratio. I found out about this combination of settings from reddit and confirmed it by trying it.

Any other setting (e.g. 480p and widescreen or 1080P) will cause the games (Breakdown, Crash Wrath of Cortex) to show up in a 4:3 aspect ratio with a squished image inside due to the patch.

Is there a quicker way of getting Aurora to change the resolution and aspect ratio as opposed to the system settings?

I'm not sure if there is any way to change the resolution & aspect ratio through Aurora, though I am curious what games you tested besides (I assume) Breakdown & Wrath of Cortex.

It was just them 2 I tried. Tbh it's not worth the faff, I removed the patches as can't be bothered anymore.

It seems the 360 homebrew community is a bit lifeless or maybe I joined abit late and the peak season has long gone since most emulators are from over a decade ago.

its because 480p gives square image which tv stretches to all screen, some time ago il do some research, that xefu's have some configs for games, if xefu run specific title id in 4:3 the 16:9 patches do nothing they just make more visible area which makes it looks stretchet vertically because the config for current title id in xefu runs emulation in 4:3,
for example wrath of cortex and dead or alive 3 runs on xefu7, but dead or alive has a config inside emulator which run it in fullscreen, if you change the title id of wrath of cortex to dead or alive, the game will run in 16:9, of course you must apply 16:9 patch to xbe unless you get full screen stretched 4:3
also you can not change the id, il write about it in this forum
but for now there is a new xefus in github which can load game configs, and there is a tutorial there how to make fullscreen configs
