Sony appears to have raised refurbished PS5 Slim prices by $100 on PlayStation Direct

Earlier this year, Sony confirmed a broad round of PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal price increases, with the new prices taking effect on April 2. Now it looks like Sony’s refurbished lineup hasn’t escaped the hikes either.

As spotted in a Reddit thread and confirmed by navigating to PlayStation Direct itself, Sony has increased the price of its certified refurbished PS5 Slim models in the U.S. by $100. The refurbished PS5 Slim Digital Edition is now listed at $499, while the refurbished PS5 Slim with disc drive is now listed at $549 on PlayStation Direct.

What makes the change stand out even more is that Sony’s certified refurbished original PS5 is still listed at $399, meaning the older launch-era model is now a much cheaper entry point than either of the Slim refurb options.

That leaves things in a pretty strange spot. Refurbished consoles are usually where buyers go to save a bit of money, but with the Slim refurb models now sitting this high, some players may start wondering whether “certified refurbished” is even much of a deal anymore. This also comes just weeks after Sony’s latest price increase for new PS5 hardware.

Because he HAS to be right and everyone else HAS to be wrong. The fact that everyone in a more publicized thread is shredding this guy's perpeually assblasted butt in the same way he claims I totally would have on any other fourm only adds to the laughs i've been getting from this guy, maybe he should quit GBATemp and go to Reddit or some other pro-Sony fourm if he wants a Sony-themed hugbox.
He can be pro Sony all he wants

Had absolutely nothing to do with Sony fanboyism, you stupid knobhead. LOL! Another weak minded one easily persuaded, duped, and conned. Ignored.
And again, we here in the GBAtemp community care about your petty teenage hissy fit...WHY?

If you're as dumb as I suspect you are, it won't be long before you reply to this with another insult that makes you look even more stupid and petty.

If you have even the slightest bit of intelligence, though, you'll be a good little Sony fanslave, keep that Ignore active, and let the adults of this community have proper conversations. Because you've proven that you're anything but an adult.

Anyway, what's crazy is that building a PC may be competitive, but isn't a clear win at this point in time over a console

Meanwhile, Costco wants $520(+tax) for a bundle with a Switch 2, 256GB micro SD express card, and a 1 year online membership code.

If there were a jailbreak for the S2, it'd be worth it for me to jump on it.

Funny enough, the part I left out was one of my first thoughts, but I didn't want to bring politics into a non-politics section, so I settled for what I said.

As for what I'm quoting...yeah. The price makes it less of a win, but for quite a while now, gaming's been at a point where generations jumps have been rather...stagnant. It's reached the point where the jumps in power are relatively minor, and graphical differences between the previous generation and next generation are minimal at best. We're basically paying more and more over time for, like, a <5% improvement over what we had the last time.

Kinda why I applaud both Nintendo and Valve's efforts to improve/innovate how people approach gaming, rather than trying to push the cap higher than we've already pushed it.

Well Nintendo is still there, albeit doing thier own thing that pisses people off in other ways, and Valve was seen as so much of a threat to Sony that they bailed on porting thier games to PC recently.
Valve is for PC.

I am talking about consoles. PC is not for everybody's taste. For example, me. I do not play on PC's.

Also Nintendo is doing their own stuff with a hybrid format.

At the same time, they are pursuing a tariff refund from the US government with no indication as to whether they will return it to their customers who were the ones who paid for it.
They ain't giving shit back. Corporations will use almost anything as an excuse to jack up prices(not them selves of course). The CCP could mow down protesters tomorrow, and Nintendo would use it as an excuse to raise the Switch prices.

Well, it's a bundle, and when the microSD Express card goes for $60 and the NSO Expansion tier is $50/yr, you're still getting a deal.

Still, that's for a *new* console... and Sony wants more than that for a refurbished PS5, which still has yet to have a game I care about.

The only difference of meaning to me, is that the PS5's bootrom number was discovered to lead to eventual jailbreak. But, no games I give a damn about.

Switch 2 could play the existing switch library (clocking in ~500gb, shockingly); but without a jailbreak, it's just a brick at this time. I'd be making a point to opt out of arbitration whenever I do get one. But that's neither here nor there. A console I can't jailbreak is functionally useless to me at this venture.

Remember when corona pandemic dropped? Every country used it as excuse to increase the prices of everything even after the dust was settled prices never went back the same. Its normalizing the idea that when X happen then people need to cope and accept it long term fixture.
