From a Pokemon event preservation standpoint we need to hope something is discovered soon ish, so we have a chance of been able to dump and preserve in game events for Pokemon Winds and Waves in 2027.

Realistically though we got lucky with the OG Switch in some ways, I suspect things are not going to move as quickly with the Switch 2.

That said Nintendo and Sony have yet to release a console that hasn't been hacked to bits while its been the current gen console, so far only Microsoft have managed to do that.

So much this. Xbox One might might get hacked soon, but very early version of that console. And that's last gen.

But once Pokémon gets released. Hackers will appear like you are in a cave with no repel.

I kinda hope we don't get it before then to be honest. It's been genuinely refreshing to have a new Pokemon game come out and not just see every part of it floating around online from dataminers. I'd be excited to play a mainline game under the same circumstances.

I was pleased that Pokopia had genuine surprises, with most switch games even if I wanted to, I couldn't really avoid spoilers here and there.

I'm also curious how much more the toxicity and dumb excuses will increase the longer folks can't emulate and/or pirate exclusive Switch 2 games (which is actually happening rn as I type this out).
Yeah will admit one of the most tiring things that happened during Switch gen was the constant "game leaked online before release" and "bragging pirates" comments. I want it to take longer just to avoid those lmao.

The fact that there is zero news or even a hint of active work on Switch 2 after almost a year seem pretty damning ngl.
This isnt uncommon for consoles actually. It's just the Switch 1 was cracked so early it set very high expectations.

Yeah it was great to actually go into a game this generation and known nothing and have nothing known online.

most likely yes, but at the same time

we didn't know that arbitrary code execution was achieved on that day - only a few people knew that at the time

more worrying is how far we have come without a switch 2 cart being dumped
The carts not being dumped is good/bad. I see Nintendo changing their tune on no key card games as soon as they are dumped. They already kinda weaseled out of it for Pokopia.

To be fair, if Nintendo didn't use an old NVidia chip with a known vulnerability, they would have been in that state. Horizon OS appears to be locked down, especially when Mariko/Lite/OLED owners would have benefited from a software-only entrypoint.

Interesting that the same month Atmosphere got released I got my hand on my first hard modded switch, a trinket M0.

Pokemon is the one thing that makes me not worry about all of this. It might take a few years but the pokemon people will figure it out like they always do.

Even if it's going back to stuff like powersaves or something lol.

Once winds/waves is close to release i expect things will heat up.

Efforts are likely to increase around that time yes. But will they be successful is the bigger question.

It didn't have a known vulnerability. That was discovered thanks to the Switch.

It was left-overs from its use in the Nvidia Shield, specifically meant to recover from unrecoverable crashes. That's why it was called ReCovery Mode (RCM), and was fully documented and public for people to recover their Shield units themselves. It affected every device that used the chip, including the Google Pixel C. What was discovered on Switch was how to activate it.

Yes and even patched units can enter RCM mode. They just can't push unauthorized payloads.

I think most of us have a general feeling it's going to take 3-4 years this time around
I'm certain most of us actually know that it won't be hacked because it cannot be hacked. That's why the topic rarely comes up any more. No one with a shred of credibility is working on it because it is a waste of time. This generation Nintendo is secure.
