Pokemon hack "Monomyth" gets reveal trailer, set to launch Fall 2026 with more than 75 hours of content

Revealed today via a trailer on YouTube, Pokemon Monomyth is a brand new ROM hack based on Pokemon Emerald. An ambitious project of more than six years in the making, it promises more than 75 hours of content set in a brand new region, making use of a combination of existing and new Pokemon to flesh it out.

In terms of features, the official site promises:
  • Over 360 brand new and returning Pokemon, with new moves, abilities, and animations
  • 200+ tracks in a brand new original soundtrack
  • Thousands of wild Pokémon coat variations
  • Contest Halls, Trainer Hill, Battle Frontier, and more!
  • Asynchronous multiplayer features and Link Cable trading
  • Sprawling environments that house many secrets
  • Dozens of sidequests across the Athanto region
Those interested in following the project can bookmark the official website, or join the community Discord server. If you're just interested in the release though, feel free to just watch the GBAtemp front page.

I'm not that much into romhacks but damn, this is so impressive I just have to try it out

Me neither I don't understand the point of releasing a trailer before release. 'm just discovering something I'm very excited to play, and I just get frustrated I can't, and it puts the project more at risk. I do understand the need for people who make that kind of stuff to make their work known and all, but idk ... This one is just frustrating 😭

Usually not a fan of fakemon in rom hacks but this seems very well done

Code based trading is a pretty interesting idea I had never considered

Also, who does not love airships in 2d games

I hope this comes out but announcements like this are just asking for the Big N to shut them down
the game has been in dev for 6 years and it's not their first announcement

what more, play testers have a ton of copies of this game in different states

if there is dmca it will come out anyway

The Catboy is impressed to hear this

Damn, looks really well done. Sadly I'm not a fan of fakemons...so I will be giving it a pass.

To repeat myself from the Reddit thread, it’s like if the series was handed off to Bandai Namco before Gen 3 or something. Really interesting project.

Another one for Emerald, oh no how original, not as if there's 10.000 of them out there already. How about some of those that there are less of, or for the more modern ones?

Guess how long Chrono Trigger Crimson Echos was in development for...4 years.

Guess when Square Enix decided to issue a takedown -- 3 weeks before the planned and announced release

Who's to say something like that would happen with this? That was incredibly lucky and highly income
Usually when a fan project gets shut down, it's gone for good
Lots of people have the game, I was reading some playtesters talk about it

Seems hard to imagine in this day and age people could really hold onto it in that case and not leak it - although possible

Because the vast majority of the tools are concentrated on the GBA titles and we’re only just getting into a mature state with the DS tools. It’s a lot simpler to create custom assets for Emerald or the earlier games than it is any other game for now. That is why.
