What are the oldest games available on Switch?

I am NOT talking about Switch exclusives by the way. Just the oldest games, period.

I have a lot of the obvious examples. Namco and Atari collections, master system ports, Wizardry 1, Doom 1, Genesis collection, commander keen, the NES emulator, megaman collection, etc.

I've been buying up EGG CONSOLE releases that are in english, which unfortunately isn't a ton of them. Hydlide for example.

What are some other OLD games I can buy on Switch?

I'm talking games that came out in the 1970's or 1980's, preferably with original graphics. 8 bit era.

Lots of them in NSO and check out Atari 50 Anniversary Collection - fantastic package with backstories etc.

Apart from emulators which allow you to play any game basically ever up to some year there are official retail ones part of ACA or Arcade Archives

I'll definitely grab the Atari pack. Somehow that had slipped by me. That looks perfect, thanks!

I guess one of the oldest game on a Switch is "Bertie the Brain" (Aug 1950), in a form of Tic-Tac-Toe; it's here for now in Nintendo eShop:

I haven't messed with CFW or any mods on my Switch so I don't know how to install that.

I never play online so I'd be interested in getting android running on it. I'd love to play the Morrowind port and have a wider range of games to choose from on the emulators....
Here is a good, up to date tutorial:
https://switch.hacks.guide/

Just get yourself a good V1 compatible Switch console, will be way easier than to install a chip into a more recent one. I can find V1 switch systems for 120-150€ and then no extra cost.
If you like old games it is definitely the way to go, you will have every kind of emulator and there are dozens of ports of old (PC) games.

Thanks. I'll keep an eye out for a V1 console and browse that guide. I know for a fact mine is V2 on the latest firmware so no modding that I'd assume.

edit: found some for a good price. that sounds like a better route for me than a switch 2 or robust android handheld.

just being able to emulate all the games I own from PS1 & 2 and prior, plus having access to AM2R and Morrowind sounds wonderful.

Probably a lot of the EGGCONSOLE games and stuff like the Atari 2600 collections.

Yea, it is pretty simple to have the V1 modded, if you follow the guide and take the time to see how everything works.
Be aware, that the switch is not really strong enough for PS2 emulation. Recently we got the new "tico" system with better wii and gamecube emulation than before, which is very impressive but also far from perfect, especially compared to PC or stronger (android) handhelds.

I got an Anbernic rg406v, one of the very few devices of that kind, that I can recommend. It emulates most PS2 games nicely, has a 4:3 960x720p screen which perfectly scales retro games. There is a also a similar but stronger Anbernic RG477V, which seems to emulate PS2 even better but is said to have a worse dpad, so I am still very fine with the 406.

The switch is great for most games, just not having a real dpad, smalish analogsticks and also having a very large size compared to something like a gameboy, I think it is not the ideal system for playing those "smaller" games.
I generally use the "Retroflag switch controller" and it is really good. Only con is not having analog triggers and charging is slower but besides that it transforms the switch into feeling like the perfect grown up hand ergonomical controller hold with high quality button control, they really nailed it.

I have the Hori split pad pro I bring with me when I expect to play handheld for more than 20 minutes at a time. I also have a bunch of different bluetooth gamepads I'll bring. I keep a SNES style one in my work bag for playing classics on my breaks.

I'm not at all concerned with adhering to a classic gameboy style footprint. In fact I'd rather have something with a larger screen, preferably no smaller than a switch 1 non oled.

I never carry these devices in my pocket. Even when I carried a GB, GBP, GBC or GBA I'd use a case with games, spare batteries etc.

So if I do go with a portable android I'd prefer something larger.

Yeah, I agree, the switch is the perfect allrounder. I also like the size of it, don't get me wrong. I think it is a great balance.
Just for those old 4:3 games, it has a lot of unused screen space and actually, I think vertical handhelds are really neat.
The 406 is really slightly too small, if it had the button size and placement similar to a snes pad and 2-4" larger screen it would be the goat. ^^

If you reach the point to mod your switch, make sure not to go to the highest firmware, it has only disadvantages.
21.0.0 should be alright, supports most homebrew and new games. It is possible to downgrade also.
The guide is probably not specifically mentioning, to use this: https://gbatemp.net/download/sys-patch-sysmodule.39463/
with this: https://github.com/ppkantorski/Ultrahand-Overlay
And really important to be aware of this thread, use the patches and change the hekate_ipl.ini accordingly to it:
