Hello!

I wanted to to let people know about a project I've been working on for the last four month called 8bitedge. I've been developing an easy way to identify only the retro games I'm interested in on eBay. I started with a spreadsheet, then moved onto a desktop application I wrote that basically implemented the spreadsheet, and finally turned it into a full fledge website with push notifications to the desktop app as well as a web console. It's a passion project of mine and I hope the retro community finds it useful.

I'm attaching some screenshots of the work I've done so far.

I'd love feedback and ideas to make it better and more useful.

Thanks!
Benjamin

Hello there, this project really sounds like a great idea! I think it would be nice if you added a "dark mode" to the website. Many websites let you do that these days. But overall, it looks almost complete!

Hi all,

I'm still hard at work on https://8bitedge.com!

I've invested many hours now fine tuning the native desktop console and it's backend by implementing native language processing, LLM RAG and vector databases to significantly improve console search results.

If you haven't yet, really try it out. It's actually useful and is a free resource I've put together for the retro gaming community. It is a really easy way to identify good deals on eBay (other marketplaces TBD) for retro games. I've added significant filtering capabilities and have separated out individual games from lots so you can do something like "Only show CIB Nintendo games that are 20% below current pricecharting and accept offers or buy it now"!. Results are pushed to the console ~ every 60 seconds so you actually get a chance to grab the latest listings.

I'm attaching screenshots of the latest desktop console and the filtering capabilities as it has improved significantly over my last posts to this forum on 8bitedge. I've been using this for awhile now to build out my SNES collection and it works really well!

Thanks and don't forget to be kind and rewind!

I think you guys will really dig this feature. I added a real time data stream that captures below pricecharting listings on eBay that are either loose, new or CIB. The discount amount is configurable and the table updates in real time! Give it a peak and try it out at https://8bitedge.com/dashboard/deals!

I'm attaching a screenshot of the new feature.

@TheCartoonFan9890 I've got a mobile dark version available now!!!

Hey All,

Still working away at 8bitedge.com. I just spent the last two weeks hammering out a progressive web application mobile version of the site! Check out https://8bitedge.com on your mobile device and it will redirect you to the mobile version! (note PWA mobile sites are installable on your local device as a native application or usable in a web browser, your choice).

Launched features on the mobile app:
  • Real time feed of games below pricecharting as they come up on eBay (~ 60 second delay from posting time at most).
  • Mobile search console, similar to the desktop site. You can create searches, modify, etc. and then get immediate results for those games that are available in your search console.
  • Mobile news updated hourly.
  • Mobile top games updated daily.
  • Light version / Dark version with a click of a button!

I've got a few new features in the work I wanted to update on as well:
  • Ajaxified pricing data for the retro consoles currently enabled on the site. Start typing and you'll see the pricing data immediately (pricecharting backend). This will lead to further features.
  • Mobile lots pricing utility like the desktop site has.
  • Mobile version of the eBay pricing calculator now that it has been deployed to the desktop site.
  • General CRUD like contact, documentation, etc.

Again I'd LOVE to hear your ideas, feedback, etc!

Thanks!

I just spent the last week conversing with Anthropic's Claude on layouts, design, etc...

Completely revamped the main site to be totally retro style layout, give a peak to the updated desktop site of https://8bitedge.com -- It is a total retro trip!

Added more features:

Completed the ajaxified pricing data on the mobile site, type in a game and it'll immediately start filtering down pricing data.

Great news on the API limits front, I was just bumped up significantly on amount of API calls I can make, so I'll be implementing more retro consoles soon!

Hope you all enjoy and thanks!

Hi Everyone,

AI has been very very helpful in so many ways with this project.

To recap as I haven't posted in a few months, I started working on 8bitedge.com over a year ago to implement an easy way to find games in markets like Ebay for discounts below pricecharting data. It started as a personal project (spreadsheet), turned into a desktop application (still there and kicking!), and finally into a fully fledge service. Pretty fun evolution to develop this!

Now 8bitedge.com is now implementing classifiers. Between the image recognition of game listings, regex classifiers, and RAG, I've really increased the accuracy of CIB vs. Loose vs. New, etc., console identification, and specific game identification. All games now have pricing data from pricecharting integrated as well.

Accuracy is through the roof now and the marketplace feeds are back on now that I've moved to a different inference provider that is actually affordable (you wouldn't believe how expensive some of them are)!

Have a great day and again, any thoughts and especially ideas on my project would be greatly appreciated.
