Hello everyone,

I do own a 5xxxx series fat ps2 and would like to play Ps1 games with it. I know about pops, but its is missing the support for the multitap and the compatibility isn't great.
I think my best way is to burn some games, but what would be the best way to play them?
I know about Mechapwn, but I am in the PAL region, so maybe that is not the best option, as I would like to play NTSC games as well (slightly better image).
Would the latest version of DKWDRV be a better option for the fat 5xxxx series?
Does this play burned back-ups of my games, or does it not?
If I am correct, it supports the fat 5xxxx series now for ps1 discs.

If I had a 3xxxx series I would probably use Tonyhax Int., but with a 5xxxx series there are other options if I am correct (Tonyhax doesn't work on those).
Thanks for the help on this!

Mechapwn sadly doesn't do much of anything on PAL because there are additional checks in place.

Considering PS1DRV/DKWDRV only have access to the disc and nothing else, other than a modchip, best you can probably do is disc swapping. For that you will need to permanently activate lid buttons and have at least one original disc.

In any case, while PS1 CPU instructions will run natively on the I/O processor, the GPU is entirely emulated, and while this is mostly fine, there are some outliers with (minor) graphical glitches and games that don't boot.

Magnum opus for PS2 PS1 emulation are NTSC-U models up to 70xxx patched with Mechapwn and fixed against the DSP bug (if applicable). Still, could do much better than that, so I wouldn't recommend anyone to get a PS2 for PS1 games.

Also, in regards to DKWDRV, I think it still relies on Mechacon's will to spin up the disc, so it has no effect on running burned backups. However, you can use it to force video region, which can help with video alignment of out-of-region games, among other things.

I have ps2 50000, I just pop the ps1 burned disc in and it will play. Good thing I still have the old modchip. Perfect compatibility.
For games on HDD or mxsio, some games need some tweaking in the popsloader setting, while some not compatible games are games that I would not want to play anyway.
