"Resident Evil 3: Last Escape" mod aims to expand and bring back cut content from the original to the RE3 Remake

Back in 2020, many fans were eagerly awaiting for the arrival of the Resident Evil 3 Remake, more so based on the success that the previous Resident Evil 2 Remake had, and many held their hopes high for what the main antagonist, Nemesis, would behave in game, given the massive praise that Mr. X's implementation in the RE2 Remake.

However, April 3rd, 2020 came by, and when RE3 Remake released, many were disappointed by the game due to many aspects of it deviating too much from what made the original so intriguing. Nemesis' role was relegated to a set piece that appeared in scripted moments, and didn't really chase the player through several locations, like the original did, and his transformation was radically different to where he just served a boss purpose, instead of still being able to stalk the player.

Also, many players complained that the Remake cut-off a lot of areas from the original game, like Jill going into the RPD on her own, and almost everything from the 2nd half of the game was cut, like the Clock Tower, which was an important part in the mid-game, with the park and the factory also missing from the Remake, and instead, players got yet another NEST/Umbrella lab location like in RE2.

All those complains added together, alongside the rather short length of the main campaign, and the last of post-game content of any kind (like The Mercenaries from the original), left a big majority of the RE fanbase with a sour taste, with most RE fans still citing it as the worst RE remake to date. And while the game itself was great and had a good quality overall, the lost potential of what the RE3 Remake could bring drove fans away from going back to it.

But as is most likely the case in most instances where players find drawbacks to a game, avid fans tend to jump on and modify its inner workings to bring the game to a higher standard that fans can enjoy, and such is the case of a currently anonymous modder who owns a YouTube channel with the nickname "Resident Evil 3 Last Escape", in which the modder attempts to recreate and add cut content from the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis back into the Remake, be it by adding cut locations into the game, to even items and enemy placements.

While his work is certainly not very recent, as he has been posting throughout several months with WIP videos of several areas, his most recent video has sparked a new spark upon fans. In the modder's most recent video, RE3 Last Escape showcases a completely reworked introduction section from the Remake. For those that have played the game before, know that the whole intro of the game is one grand showcase of Nemesis, with the big bad essentially bursting out of Jill's apartment wall to chase her down throughout the apartment building.
But in the Last Escape mod, the modder has changed this introduction to instead be a chaotic escape from the apartment building after a random explosion in Jill's room, while zombies start bursting through her door. From there onwards to escaping the building, only zombies can be found, no Nemesis, reserving his iconic introduction for later in the game, and also, to mimic that of the original RE3's starting sequence, with Jill bursting out of her apartment after an explosion.

This is only one of many videos by RE3 Last Escape, with this latest one being the best showcase of what a reworked RE3 Remake can be.
In other videos, RE3 Last Escape showcases Jill going into the RPD, items from RE2 Remake being imported into RE3 Remake, reworked bar and uptown areas, and even adding back the Warehouse from the beginning of the game.

Without a doubt, passionate fans are putting up a lot of work to make this a better version of the RE3 Remake, a work that many felt Capcom didn't live up to expectations when doing the RE3 Remake, and with the impressive showcases that this anonymous hacker has made so far, many fans are eagerly awaiting for this mod to evolve and become available, even if in an alpha state, so that it can become the long fan-awaited "Director's Cut" of the Resident Evil 3 Remake.

Those interested in following the progress of thid mod can do so by subscribing to the "Resident Evil 3: Last Escape" YouTube channel, where the anonymous user uploads updates and new showcases nearly twice per month.

I'll say it: this is one of my favourite games ever. It's a short, breezy game which is a TON of fun to just play it again and again on higher difficulties. As a remake it's undeniably lackluster, missing lots of things. As a speedrun action game, I love it. 100%'d it twice and I actually find it more fun than RE2R, albeit agreeing it is definitely the better game.

I'm not sure what to expect of the mod, but at least it'll be content. I may give it a go once it's finished, but I don't think it will be better than the official game.

If you only played through RE3R once, I urge you to open the shop and try to tackle the higher difficulties. Nemesis actually becomes a menace in there. Ironically, I also think the remake works better if you remember "Last Escape" was the original subtitle for Biohazard 3, not "Nemesis". The game is absolutely about running away from a helltown rather than being chasen by a stalker, and I think the sense of urgency was conveyed through it successfully by its action sequences. It is short and it's missing stuff, but what is there is a very fun action game.

The remake is great, speaking as an og fan. Capcom cut a bunch of fat and made it a great, tight package, per the original intentions. It was always meant to be a more action-packed Resident Evil game.

I wouldn't have minded a more stalker-y Nemesis and some other original areas, but that doesn't spoil a game for me, just the purists out there that take no joy from anything different than their exact, original experiences.

Give me RE3 Remake vs 1 or 2 where I have to run around in circles in a big building about 23 times, spending 95% of my time trying to unlock 148 doors. Fun.... Obviously I'm not a big metroidvania fan, but the original titles are just tedious and uber repetitive. Cheap way to get out of having to create other areas. No idea why people eat that stuff up.

RE3/RE4 remakes are RE at it's best for me. I also have a soft spot for the Umbrella/Darkside Chronicles for no-nonsense rides through of the series set pieces in a fun, arcade style.

i am not a og fan of re3 I only played the remake of it, but I enjoyed it. esp since I discovered re3r after I beat re7, 8 and re2r. I enjoyed that faster pace not super long game.

You know, they could have just remade the FULL game and you could have just stopped playing before you finished it.
Whats the point of praising them for giving you less content.
Fucking ridiculous.
I bet when someone spits in your Cola you praise how creamy it is now.

In the old days, a company like Capcom would have worked to save it and its brands' reputation by at least selling you a better, full version. Well done the modder, but these franchises barely deserve people like you anymore.

I was shocked when the otherwise blatantly superior Switch remake of Zelda LA didn't have the photo mouse anymore. Dampé is a weird character that they are pushing now who did not fit at all, and honestly, they probably could have used a bit of imagination and had the photo mouse make dungeons, it's not as if the game is supposed to make sense in the first place. When did we start accepting this. I was already disappointed when MM3D didn't add extra content for the last two transformation masks, unless you count some relaxing preapocolyptic fishing 🙄

They could have just had it as a fast paced mode. Almost like the lastet Resident Evil game. There are zero reasons not to have done all the content.

Brother please don't project what you like to do on your personal time. Such an angry response for no reason, hope your life gets better.
