Resident Evil fans will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the franchise with a full fanmade CGI movie of REmake

Fans tend to go to great lengths to show their appreciation of a franchise that they hold in high regard, and next year, one of the most popular horror franchises in gaming, Resident Evil, will celebrate its 30th Anniversary, with the release of the original title being March 22nd, 1996.

While Capcom might be holding something in store for the 30th Anniversary besides what is currently known, like Resident Evil: Requiem (or RE9), fans didn't just stand around waiting for them to announce and release something related to the franchise, and instead, a group of fans have been hard at work to provide an unofficial release based on the franchise.

Arklay Studios just released the first trailer for its unofficial full CGI film going simply by the title of "Resident Evil: CGI Fan Movie". The film will focus on the events of the 2002 Gamecube Remake of the first game. The fan movie promises be done entirely with CGI, albeit, with no use of generative AI at all, with it all being CGI made with Unreal Engine 5. The film aims to provide a faithful adaptation of the events of the Remake, while expanding on certain elements and story beats to enhance the experience, like an inclusion of an adaptation of the popular file entry, "Keeper's Diary".

RESIDENT EVIL CGI FAN MOVIE

Resident Evil CGI Fan Movie project is built in Unreal Engine 5 and based on the 2002 REmake. Aiming for a faithful adaptation with some new scenes to expand the story. Planned release in 2026 (targeting March 22). Made by fans, for fans.

This project is a separate production from the fan remake that is still in development. The visuals may look similar because both projects are created in Unreal Engine 5, but this is a CGI fan film adaptation of the original Resident Evil 1 story, based on the 2002 remake.

The goal of the film is to remain a 100 percent faithful adaptation of the game’s narrative and atmosphere, while also expanding certain story moments with new and original scenes. These additions are being made carefully and respectfully, always in a way that benefits the fans and the world of the story.

The current release window is 2026, with the hopeful target of March 22 in honor of the original game’s release date.

The film will also include an adaptation of the Keeper’s Diary, inspired in part by the version recreated by the Residence of Evil team. This is a fan-made project created by fans, for fans, and is not affiliated with Capcom.

The film is set to release on 2026, with a hopeful release date of March 22nd, to match the original release date of the first game.
Those interested in this fan CGI film can follow "Residence Of Evil" at their YouTube channel for any upcoming information regarding the movie.

you don’t need to be a chef to critic how a food taste. Sorry you might not like that but that’s how it works

I’d say it looks ok, its faithful to the original material
But no one's gonna take a picky eater's word for it. When was the last time you've seen anyone praise something?? like genuinely

Some idiot here who has never animated anything in their life will still complain that it looks like trash
I want you to pull the short film up on a laptop irl, bring someone over to see it, and have that be the first thing you say about it. You'll sound insane. Because seeing something and having your first reaction to be to complain about people based on what you think is going to happen is insane and only flies when you're anonymous.

Can you really blame me for saying this when literally the previous 2 video game animations discussed here were mostly just pointless critiques?

Hahaa, caught Shinji Mikami's photo at the 0:49 mark.

I watched the trailer, and I thought it was interesting. Some animations are stilted, and the voice acting seems a bit flat. (The guy doing Wesker does a nice impression.) That's about all the constructive criticism I could level at it. I didn't dislike what I saw.

Overall, there's some clear effort put into this. The environments looked great, and a refusal to use AI means there's going to be a handcrafted quality to every frame. The filmmakers have promised that the goal is a 100% faithful adaptation. Not a bad deal for the community.

You thought I was calling you the idiot? Hell nah, far from it

I know, I know. Your initial post did inspire me to add some constructive criticism to my reply, but I'll always support smaller efforts. It takes a lot of dedication to put out even a small game let alone a full length CG movie. After all, real life has its own challenges without long term side projects coming into play.

Oh yeah totally, I like this animation too, it's just with the previous 2 threads, I didn't wanna go through another ratio of users complaining again for unnecessary purposes
You’re not allowed to know what you like unless put the work in… apparently…
If you have no reason behind it, and complain for either the purpose of ragebait or pure nonsense, then yeah, like you gain nothing for putting down someone's work by saying "ew" without cooperating

The fan made movie looks good. Its nice to see how passionate some people can get about a great VG series. Believe it or not my birthday falls on march 22nd.. lets hope that besides his movie maybe capcom has a nice surprise for us but I won't hold them to it. What is everyones favorite Resident Evil game? Mine is resident evil remake, part 4 and the outbreak series.

Wait a minute, this screenshot is out of context.

That comment was about a short animation made by a literal multibillion dollar company (I still think the baby is ugly as fuck because it is essentially a culmination of western stereotypes some Japaneses still seem to have in 2025, which is baffling to me).

This here is a fan movie, it is quite absurd to assume people would react the same way.

You didn’t reply that this isn’t even as bad as the animated babies from 20-10 years ago

You said nothing about the ICE AGE baby

And what part of the baby is stereotyping?? It’s a fucking baby, at most it looks generic

For what it is, I think this looks great and I'm excited to watch the full version. I hope the severe color banding is just from YouTube though, because even at 4K setting the image quality is crap.

Last edited by Earthshine,
idk what's up with the comments for this one, for everything that's entirely done by the fans of the resident evil series, this is incredible looking. If someone says it's bad though, that's cause they just think its bad. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, in my opinion?

How the hell are fans able to achieve stuff like this??? I was looking at the Earthbound Beginnings SNES footages that were shown on the Internet and I cannot imagine how fans are able to perfectly recreate entirety of such onto an SNES and to think that it's almost out (Q3 2026 to be specific) is quite an outstanding achievement. Apparently the OP had some major involvement in it too, so GBATemp should be proud of you being on the Editorial board for sure. Always love it when I see stuff like that.

And then Metroid X Fusion.... That was all done by one person and it's a ROM hack of Super Metroid despite being a game being based on a GBA game.... When it clicks, fans are seriously some of the most intelligent and creative beings that, again when it clicks, makes the source material the best it can possibly could

This is a silly strawman, I don't see how I'm not allowed to criticize Nintendo's animation without needing to talk about a totally unrelated animation, but even then, your message answers itself, Ice Age is an animation from decades ago, if they introduced that design today it would be under much more scrutiny.

Yes, but you just deflected the fact that you have nothing to backup your claim on what the baby is stereotyping

If you have no reason, then why?

I don’t hate you because there’s no reason to

It be unreasonable if I do hate you, but there’s no because

You see where I’m coming at?
