So, as a cautinary tale for others to not repeat my mistake :^)

I went on aliexpress and got a shell, for around 40 USD. Thought everything would be OK, that the shell swap would take around 2 hours.

I was very wrong and naive. It took around 12 hours total and some of my nerves, definitely.

Unfortunately, during boot I discovered that the n3DSXL would boot (before that it was doing okay) for few seconds (lower LED was glowing blue), then -pop- sound and it's dead. Since I have installed B9Strap I tested the mainboard - it was responsive - the status led went green. So no problem there.

I suspect either either faulty connection or faulty cable and I really hope it's the first one :').

Since I am planning to either way get rid of the aliexpress case, I suppose i could connect it "naked" and check if that's working, but in case it's a faulty cable, is there a way to test, which cable is causing the problems so I can get rid of it? Or if there is a script to run to test it?

Does one or both of the displays very quickly flash white, at the moment when the 3DS shuts off with the pop sound? When a DS or 3DS shuts off in this way, and one of the displays very quickly flashes white (it may be very hard to see, it's roughly 1/60 of a second), it usually indicates that the problem is with one of the components in the other "half" of the device.

Close visual inspection of the ribbon cables is probably the best way to see if there's a problem with one of them. Especially if you're going to have all the components out of the case again, either way.

Fortunately, there is no issue with that - it does not flash. After inspecting the cables I suppose that the cable at fault is the camera ribbon cable - one, very small part of it is see-through (scraped off the..plastic?), though the cables, when observed without microscope, seem to be intact.

I have access to mutlimeters and a microscope and will take a look at it via that, and also just trying to turn it on completely without the shell. I don't know if the malfunctioning camera cable can be the cause of the 3DS not turning on though.

I think I have found the culprit, after looking with a microscope at the cables, it weren't them.

Instead, I suspect the cable locks being screwed up (because of me nonetheless):

Unfortunately, most of these connectors are like this, opening more than they should and supposedly not pressing against the contacts.
That error is repeatedly tell on ALL DISASSEMBLE GUIDES, everywhere you are tell DO NOT PRY the connector, and still some years late so many people still do it.

unfortunately, i was not reading these guides, I was just following a reshell video guide. But yep. Either way, I will either have to unsolder it (near impossible for me) or just hold it down with some tape.
