    Have you tried Gamecube Backup Launcher 0.2? Thats what I use for GC titles and Crystal Chronicles runs fine (my copy is on a multigame disc though, if that makes any difference).

    I have been playing via DVD Backup (Neogamma r9 v39, cIOSx19 base 37, 4.2e), and have gotten quite a bit past that part of the game, without experiencing any freezes. My Wii is softmodded, with no modchip. Hope that helps in some way.
