    Following Plailect's guide, on an old 3dsXL at 4.5, is it necessary to do step "Section IV - Restoring the System" if I don't care about keeping anything? Can I just do a System Update from 2.1?

    How can one confirm that the sysnand and emunand are separated? Can you tell from looking at the files/folders on the sd card?

    You did everything right but the secret is you have to rename the dump from .3ds to .3dz, I made the same mistake :) Works fine after that (assuming your save was made in Gateway Classic Mode).

    Hacking gw 2.7 all cia will no longer install

    I'm having basically the same issue, almost all cia installs fail, emunand 9.4 and Gateway 2.7 (I am able to install the cia's for bbb and Super Mario Bros 2 however). Reformatting the emunand (then updating it back to 9.4) didn't help. I then reformatted it again and left the emunand on 4.4...

    BigBlueMenu says Firmware Ver. 0.19.49(r53511). Also tried DevMenu but don't have the version handy (didn't reinstall after emunand reformat). What's the newest version for each?

    I reformatted the emunand, and this time I left it on 4.5 and voila, the cia installed fine. I then updated the emunand to the current release, 9.4.0-21U and blammo, same problem and errors installing cia again.

    Another good clue - I just launched that dumped Pokemon and it said straight away that the save is corrupted. Hmm, hopefully someone with classic mode/card2 experience can chime in :)

    Thanks. Unfortunately it says broken and won't export. Coulda sworn I read this was doable, maybe I'll repeat the dump and other steps and try again.

    Also Do I "Y: export this user save data to SD card" or "R+Y: export this secure value to SD card" and do I have to do anything regarding decryption?
