hi there,

i have a jpn wii and jpn super mario galaxy
obviously the game is in japanese and i would love to play it in english

i know that you can change the arc files from the ntsc-usa version
and put them into ntsc-jpn version to read the game in english with
the trucha signer program

the files are very small - so i was wondering if anyone can help myself
and everyone else who has an ntsc-j wii (seeing as the other versions
do not work for us) to play the game in english

maybe a rapidshare link?

the files can be extracted and take up less than a MB

they are
Message.arc
HomeButton.arc
and
WiiRemoteStrapReplace.arc

in the jpn version they are found in

\JpJapanese\MessageData\Message.arc
\JpJapanese\layoutData\HomeButton.arc
\JpJapanese\layoutData\WiiRemoteStrapReplace.arc

any help is appreciated

thanks so much!

the replacement arc files work a treat!

its great knowing what to do rather than guessing!

SMG is REALLY good!
This trucha signer is brilliant and my thanks to those
that found out how to patch which files!

I feared that i may never get to play SMG in english
because of the USA/PAL incompatibility with JPN-WII

Thanks again everyone!
(RowanDDR in particular!)

Maybe I'm just blind and can't find it, but could someone post the files for the rest of us on a free host service?

You'd have endless thanks from the masses (at least until someone figures out how to get fire emblem working

Can someone please post a step by step guide on how to do this? I have downloaded the necessary files from rapidshare and have the JAP iso.. thx!

check the trucha signer guide at http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=76657

do step 1-6, then skip to 27-34 (replace the following files on the jpn smg iso: Message.arc, HomeButton.arc, WiiRemoteStrapReplace.arc)

(optional)there is an additional step if you get "error 001" message when you insert the hacked/patched iso

here's how to fix it:

thanks for sharing! got it working too =)

i suppose this process can be applied to other jpn games as long as we have the relevant language files? say for SSBB, when the US version comes out hope we can do the same thing.. =D

i can't understand the key.bin ... sorry im a noob here and i want to play smg too

i think i got it now... hehe

by the way, how can i dump my burned games? does it need to have the special LG drives?

well, i have a US wii but im doing this for a friend who owns a jap wii... i want my friend to experience super mario galaxy in english...

danci,

use rawdump for originals

and any backup can be turned into an iso file with just
about any cd/dvd burning software

the protection is gone and can easily be made into an iso
with nero or any other burning software

smg-jpn2eng is great fun - far less frustrating now!

EDIT: I finally got it

@shredman

i used nero to make an iso of my backup game and tried to open it in trucha... it says error in decrypting or something like that...
what did i do wrong?

Just wait a while, I'm sure the Wii Vid Mode patcher will support PAL or NTSC/U to NTSC/J soon enough, then you should in theory be able to make it work very easily.

Thanks a million for all the helpful hints and links, fellas. You saved me from having no idea what was happening on SMG (jap wii, playing NTSC-J version of SMG with Japanese language)... thanks to this, I have now re-written the aforementioned ARC files and reburned the ISO. And just like everyone says - Jap wii, with NTSC-J version of SMG only with English.

Hot Dam(n)! Too awesome!

(my setup - Jap Wii, 3.1J, wiikey 1.9g)

Really, everyone who helped with those tips and especially hosting the english ARC files. Couldn't have done it without you all!

hi i was wondering how you knew that those arc files were for the language? i'm trying to do this for another game but i can only find the arc files for the home button on the PAL and JP version. there are dir files but they don't seem to affect the language file even though they are labeled eu, us and jp. any help would be appreciated thanks.

Tested the game with the English arc files, works GREAT~!

But there's a slight eye-candy problem, the speech bubbles aren't large enough to accommodate the longer texts.
It wraps (usually) one line more under the speech bubble, some texts are unreadable if the background colour is black/dark, and perfectly readable if its white/light cause the texts are black.

Anybody know what to do to make the modification perfect?
