yeah it seems to be world wide... i also had the thought it could be an exercise to get the home addresses of mod chip users =D thats just being silly and paranoid though lol.

It is fantastic that Nintendo support their existing customers like this. Most other companies would just release the new version of the remote and force everyone who wants it to buy a new one. Fantastic customer service.
