Meteora v0.9 released
Space/fantasy based god-sim game

Meteora is a space/fantasy based god-sim game by Jérôme Wax that lies somewhere between populous, Space Invaders, world of sand and pong. The action takes place over both screens, the touch screen being your "world" and you attack an opposing one using mana and an assortment of spells.

New in version 0.9 is DSIO and Wifi battle support. DLDI patching is required to save.

It is advised you do the ingame tutorial should you be new to this game.

If you want a comparison think space invaders meets the boss battle in the teen witch of warioware touched (Ashley in the US/English version).

Quite in fact this easily makes it in my top 5 homebrew for the DS.

I find it impossible to disagree.
This game is very well-polished, professional and highly addictive. I wouldn't mind buying this if it were commercial.

Holy shit, this is great, the guy not only takes the time to create a game with way more polish than many commercial games for the ds, but he even puts a nice tutorial in, really awesome game.

edit: wifi doesn't seem to be working though, that or there's no one playing right now heh.

Reading your comments I'll definitely need to give it a try when I'm back home from work. Sounds more than appealing!

This game is awesome! Takes some time to get used to, though. My strategy currently is stall, make my mana rate/mana count go up, make the enemy's shots turn against them, use Wind of God, and spam the biggest meteor shower thing.
It needs more spells, though. Best homebrew game so far! My only complaint is I run out of breath while playing.

Also, if this was a commercial game, I'd buy it.

The graphics and presentation are definitely really polished and high quality, but I wonder if I'm missing something in the gameplay because it seems almost agonizingly boring to me. Most battles take 5-10 minutes and it doesn't seem like much happens in that time.

My strategy is about the same as Jamesco's. The only other tactic I ocassionally use is to combine charged meteor spells with the dust from my planet to make a big charged meteor and then blow that over to the other side. And I only do that for variety since it doesn't really seem to be more effective than just defending and then raining meteor showers on them whenever I have enough mana.

So am I missing the deeper strategy to this game or something? Or is it just that it's not my style?

Online multiplayer might be more fun, I'll have to give it a try.

Yeah, very nice homebrew

Best I've seen so far.

In the Normal level Story Mode, I think there might be a bug. I can't seem to damage The Eye no matter what I sent towards it. Not the shields and not the hp. Seems like its invincible right now.

I just beat the eye after a 5 minute battle (all others took me 1.30 tops)... He recharges amazingly fast, so at the beginning sacrifice some of your life (so you are at 100/500) to boost your recharge rate. And then spam and blow - I noticed charged shots powered with mana and meteor showers followed by a Wind of God (no pun intended) hurt him most.

Fun game, though the strategy side of the game is limited....

This game is kinda hard for me as well, maybe cause I just haven't found an easier strategy. So far all I do is use the Wind of God for defense, which has me concentrated on "creating wind" to defend myself, while trying to actually attack. Perhaps this game should have some warning for those with asthma, lol. Anyone have an easier strategy to defend yourself?

Does sacrificing life increase your recharge rate?  I was wondering what that did....

No it gives some mana in exchange for life... Then you can use it on the button directly left of it. Quite useful at the start of battles to quickly increase your mana recharge rate.

Better to use your life for this useful feat, because otherwise you'll loose the lifeforce quickly enough anyway. Generally it's the idea to not let your shield power drop, which can only be done with the mana usurping features. If you can get an attack in after each defense, in the end you'll be more succesfull.

If you're quick about it, you can stop all the incoming meteors by touching them with your stylus. You can use this to build up a sort of second shield in front of your planet. Also mux some of the littler ones together before blowing them back and you'll do more damage.

My main strategy is to do that the first time the enemy sends me a meteor shower, then let those enemy meteors hang around on my screen for a while while upping my mana rates and building some meteors of my own with the planetary dust (be careful not to let your meteors collide with the enemy meteors--they don't mix) then the next time an enemy meteor shower comes, use the Wind of God to blow everything over and follow it up right away with a meteor shower spell of my own.

That seems to work all the time. And maybe that's really my main problem with the game--it's so rigid. There's actually quite a lot of different things you can do in it, but if you follow the right pattern, you're guaranteed a win though the battle may seem interminable. I guess it's almost like a turnbased RPG in that way, which is just a genre I don't like.
