A number of language learning games are available for Japanese DS owners. Does anyone know of any possibility of a "Learn Japanese" DS game being released?

It seems like an english-based, Japanese language learning game would be such an obvious candidate. I'm sure most english speaking DS owners have at least a passing interest in Japanese culture or the language...

it would be a nice to have a homebrew language software, something like rosetta stone, show buncha pictures and make you figure out what it is. also teaches basic alphabets, would rock even more if it had sound files of what the letters acually sounded like and perhaps words.

oh i did see some sonic based homebrew game to learn a language but it was for pc. I dont want to learn anything via porn machine, TV, DS, or bust.

I am pretty sure homebrew for such a thing already exists I don't recall the name for it but I remember seeing some when I was on a hunt for different homebrew apps.

One description I read said it works like flashcards.

That is where I saw it unfortunately the search engine doesn't work very well and I don't remember the name.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: As far as I know the ones I found were only for learning out to read not to speak.

If you already know basic Japanese, there are a few games out there that may be helpful in learning... Like the "kodomo no tame no yomikikase", "shikakui atama o maruku suru", etc. are basically for Japanese kids, but is easy enough for beginners. The Japanese version of brain age is interesting also.

Pimsleur is probably better that any game if you want a quick primer on how to listen/speak, although the language is pretty formal.
