NDS_BGMFILER 2009/07/05 released.
Music creation application for the DS.

Notable Japanese homebrew author MeRAMAN has released a new version BGMFILER for the DS, it has not really been covered before (first version was released in early October 2008) but it is a music making application for the DS focussing on "midi" type files (the actual format is BDT but wav and midi support was added throughout development).
It features midi playback (and for a handheld very good conversion), a keyboard able to use many instruments (inbuilt and external), channel selection along with many ways to vary how things are played back.

So... Er... What can we do with this that we can't do with KORG DS-10? It's good to see people making homebrew like this, but I feel this one is a little obselete for the DS...

ALL ds music programs are important! KORG is not the be all end all to DS music as it's only a synth, and also it is lacking in many features. This features MIDI playback and various instruments, which KORG does not handle.

Interesting, I think I'll try this one out. I checked the author's page, and it seems that he/she has been working on this for quite some time since 2008. I'm glad this news reached GBAtemp

Also, I love the Gradius font.

So how does it work? I tried to put some midi files on my ds, but nothing.
It says 'Cannot use NitroFS in this environment'. NitroFS?

From what I know, NitroFS is another music creation app for the DS.
But it could also be a computer app too, I never did research on it.

No, it`s a driver for accessing read-only filesystems - like on the old flash cards - when you can write only in the additional space inside nds files. Read it here: NitroFS Wiki

Don't change the original filename. For some reason, NitroFS doesn't like that.

I finally can tell why it's better. It's able to show how a .mid file is played on piano. That's why

No, you can play midi files and you can see how it's played. You can't record, but you have a piano to play along.
