Hacking Why can't Backup loaders and other wii soft mod hacks read at 6x?

I am just curious as to why the wii back up hacks can only run at 3x? Is it something thats just impossible for a wii softmod to do or is it something thats still being figured out? Please don't flame me over this, I am just a bit curious as to why?

The wii sees a backup as a DVD
DVDs read at 3x speed
(yes, the wii was originally intended to play DVDs)

shit, i totally forgot about that whole thing where nintendo pulled the dvd feature before the release. Ok that makes a whole lot more sense now.

Why did Nintendo pull the DVD feature? It would have sold them a lot more units at no cost to them.

Because of (probably) two reasons:
1) They noticed it was exploitable
2) They didn't want to pay up royalties for DVD playing

Yes it would be of cost to them.

They needed to get all the licensing. They were too lazy.

Because DVD players are very cheap now and nintendo is still a company that makes 'game consoles'
They do what they are designed for: playing games, no more, no less

The license costs are only 2-3 bucks per Wii, i don't think the cost did matter. My favorite is that they did something wrong, and you would have the same media trouble with burned video dvds as you have now with backups when you are "only" softmodded.

So what exactly is stopping them from removing the drive's firmware that states that DVDs can be played at 3X and only keeping the WOD 6X speed on there? This is what would stop all softmodding on new Wiis.

I'm surprised they haven't taken it out. They would just need a firmware that blocks the HBC from being installed and then take out the DVD features.

What about the xbox360 and ps3? They both read dvd's and there's no softmod for them.
