think I fried something?

I switch my computer on with a PS/2 keyboard, since my push switch broke

I was playing around with the setting for this in the motherboard bios, where "restore power" can be switched to "power on", rather than "power off".

but when I saved the settings, instead of rebooting, the computer just didn't post with the fans on full. So I switched the power off, then cleared CMOS with the jumper. afer a lot of auto restarts, it finally posted.

but when I went into the bios to redo all my settings, I can no longer put the multiplier above 34 (it's a 2600k) and I can no longer put my memory above 1333mhz (it's 1866mhz memory).

do you think a power surge could have physically broken these things? is the CPU multiplier and the memory multiplier linked? is that why they both only work on a very low setting now?

I suppose I just have to be happy everything else works fine, it's just I feel sad now no overclocking anymore

You could of gave it a bad setting and may need to update your bios

Then try to see if another mb works with your old settings

I have the latest bios. I know my boards bios like the back of my hand. I have put exactly the same settings as before. it won't even do the SPD for the memory at 1866mhz any more (even though that's the only one listed, like it doesn't even have a setting listed for 1333mhz, so the board has just made up the timings itself)

Heres a few questions

Whats your MB?
If you can, Try to see if another mb could work
Try to see where there could be hardware damage
and.... Try to see if your PC can still run certain software as it could of damaged your HDD or your ram

thanks, but I already told my board. also, yeah, I wish I had other components to swap out, but only have this board and CPU

Seems like the power surge may of damaged the CPU or RAM. Whenever you can, try them in a different motherboard (Like a Dell or an HP)

Now see if everything still works, may of damaged other things harshly
