Hey folks.
I need help figuring out what has been installed on this/my modded wii.
I purchased it from USA-4.3U (I'm in Au (pal)). Came modded & loaded with emulated games.
Only had 4 wii ntsc rips with no other apps, on 32gb USB stick, & all other SD card emulated games look mostly ntsc.
Matt Brewer Mods - Etsy. Never replied, afterwards & vanished. Cost = Au$ 370.00.

I wanted to insure that it was set to region-free-all, but couldn't get priiloader at start-up.
Removed the 64gb sd card (Yes - works fine) to investigate the sd card's contents, & found there was no :
- Priiloader
- Bootmii
- USB loader
- Wii mod lite
It's a red wii. The emu games run, but are somewhat sluggish loading & playing.
Googled most of the folders contents for ideas/clues, without much success.
I have no idea as to how/what this wii has installed. Wii seems to work well enough.
Wanted to use SysCheck HacksDen Edition, but couldn't find a manual that indicates where to store on the sd card.
I think it's the SD card's apps folder, but not 100% sure. Seriously ?, "unzip contents to Sd card" ??
I am new to modding & need some input, please. Also want to further my modding knowledge, safely.

I just de-hard modded my old (early) Au wii (wasabi dx). Wii was dead, but after wasabi was removed, it worked (4.3E).
I plan to letterbomb, priiloader, bootmii, HBC & usbloader it as soon as I grow larger testicles.
Been reading heaps on different mod methods, & letterbomb method seems the better/easier way to start.
Only to play wii games, will use & test with USB: Hard-drives, usb sticks (different sizes) & compatible ht-lg dvd-roms.
Will use with NTFS format, WBFS folder & main SD card (fat32) folders. Fully intend using bootmii to back-up nand.
Please go easy with me. I'm 63 y/o & learned to ask obscure questions, where clarity is needed.
If other/more info is needed, just yell out. Many thanks.

Syscheck.
You could either drop the generated syscheck file into ModMii, and that's if you can access the Homebrew Channel on your Wii. If you don't have it in your home menu, you have to re-mod the system again.
- Follow the guide here to do that, all methods achieve the same thing, use whatever it suited for you.
If you have the Homebrew Channel forwarder channel installed on your home menu, you can get all the necessary homebrew files from either ModMii as stated above, or you can get from the Wii.guide site:
- Priiloader
- BootMii
- USBLoaderGX (rev. 1272 mod by @blackb0x)

Thanks for responding.
Actually, I don't recall even seeing Modmii in the apps folder (or any folders).
All folder names & files only relate to emulators & their games. There are some .dol files, but also seem to relate to emulators.
I wonder if it's modded directly to wii's internal memory, only ? Even then, it should show up in HBC, correct ?
The RED wii indicates (to me) that it's the later restricted wii model & Bootmii couldn't back-up the nand.
I need to dive into the IOS's. This is where it gets hairy, for me.
It is weird that the whole SD card hasn't got the most/any popular apps, files/folders.
Hope they're not hidden (if possible).
I will start this red wii tomorrow & dig deeper, somehow. Just don't get how it does what it does to function. I like the phrase "Leave well enough alone", but was hoping to see folders/files relating to the mod that was used on this wii.
I will respond with more. Sorry, it's close to 11pm here (to late to start).

Dude, you severely overpaid for that modded Wii. I mod them FULL of emulators+ROMs, and sell them for $100 USD FULLY LOADED with the best Wii games on a 128GB USB stick.
Yeah, I know. But I promised my daughter by a certain date, she'd have another wii.
Nobody wants to touch wiis around here (Au) & so I didn't have much choice. Etsy seemed like a reputable place to purchase.

No. ModMii is a pc software, it should help you with updating your softmods and getting the necessary homebrew files..
All folder names & files only relate to emulators & their games. There are some .dol files, but also seem to relate to emulators.
Yes, dol files are located inside the apps folder. Games/roms are on separate folders. Depending on the emulator..
Wii games are located in the wbfs folder on the root of the drive, GC games should be in the games folder..
I wonder if it's modded directly to wii's internal memory, only ? Even then, it should show up in HBC, correct ?
What should show up in hbc?
Emulators and homebrew apps are stored in the apps folder that's located on the root of the sdcard.
The Homebrew Channel forwarder channel should be installed on the Wii's nand, and with the necessary homebrew apps on the sd card, when you launch the HBC your emulators & homebrew apps will show up in the hbc.
The RED wii indicates (to me) that it's the later restricted wii model & Bootmii couldn't back-up the nand.
Are you talking about a Wii Mini? Because that's the latest model. I assumed you were talking about the Mario 25th Anniversary Red Wii..
Btw, you shouldn't follow the guide that was meant for the earlier Wii revisions, it could brick your Wii Mini (if that's what you are using)..
I need to dive into the IOS's. This is where it gets hairy, for me.
That's why i asked you to do a syscheck. Again, if you don't have the Homebrew Channel on your home menu, and can't access Priiloader holding the reset button on boot, then you need to remod your system.
It is weird that the whole SD card hasn't got the most/any popular apps, files/folders.
You need to have the necessary ones first, the ones i mentioned above, only then you can access or add different emulators etc.

Oops, should have realized about Modmii. Sorry. My bad.

No WBFS folder/s on either usb stick or sd card.
The 4 wii rips are in scrubbed iso format & game names are used for folders & iso files. Not game ID's.

Only emulators show in HBC, & I found USB loader there. Had to look twice to believe it was there. And that's all that appears in HBC.

The Homebrew Channel forwarder ?
I can only see HBC explorer (in HBC).

Not wii mini. Just a later release wii without the ability to back-up nand & needs to use an ios.
God, I hope I got that right ? I know I was reading the correct wii model, & wii mini wasn't it.
Didn't know about Mario 25th Anniversary Red Wii mini, but this sure looks like a normal wii, just red & not white.

No. Cannot get priiloader on power-up, with reset button. Did try holding reset & then powering up. Nothing. Just goes to wii channel menu screen (after pressing A).
Also tried powering up & then pushing reset quickly & slowly, but it just kept resetting itself.
That's why I asked for help with "SysCheck HacksDen Edition". Where to place the unzipped files (into what sd card folder ?). Sd card Apps folder ? Is there anything else I need to know about installing & using SysCheck HacksDen Edition ?

HBC is on main menu, the only mentioned app it displays is USB loader. The rest are emulators (besides HBC explorer).
The emulators all seem to work well, & that's not the problem. Once I can grasp the knowledge of this red USA wii's mod setup, then & only then will I look into emulators & how they work.

Sorry, I'm not jumping the gun & install what you mentioned, yet.
Perhaps, after I mod my own old wii & get confident with all the works.
I did read many negatives about how many folks bricked/semi-bricked their wiis with installing & re-installing priiloader.

Thanks for responding.

No WBFS folder/s on either usb stick or sd card.
The 4 wii rips are in scrubbed iso format & game names are used for folders & iso files. Not game ID's.
These Wii isos need to be in the wbfs folder on the root of usb flash drive, so they'd show up in USBLoaderGX or Wiiflow..
Only emulators show in HBC, & I found USB loader there. Had to look twice to believe it was there. And that's all that appears in HBC.
Ok. Then put the syscheck files on a folder on the apps folder, it will appear in the hbc, and launch from there.
The Homebrew Channel forwarder ?
Don't worry about it, you already have it installed.
No. Cannot get priiloader on power-up, with reset button. Did try holding reset & then powering up. Nothing. Just goes to wii channel menu screen (after pressing A).
It's okay, just follow the Priiloader guide page i linked to above to install it. Though don't do that until you generate a syscheck, and post it here when you do so we can look what is missing on your Wii..
That's why I asked for help with "SysCheck HacksDen Edition". Where to place the unzipped files (into what sd card folder ?). Sd card Apps folder ? Is there anything else I need to know about installing & using SysCheck HacksDen Edition ?
Just click on the syscheck page i linked to earlier above, it should tell you what to do.
And yes, the syscheck files should be located in sd:/apps/syscheck , once you place it there you will find the homebrew app once you launch the homebrew channel from the home menu..
I did read many negatives about how many folks bricked/semi-bricked their wiis with installing & re-installing priiloader.
It's not that risky at all. Just follow the instructions from the guide you'll set it up in no time.

Good morning.
I know I've wasted my time doing the below, & I know I definitely screwed-up with the listings.
Most root folders names repeat in apps\apps subfolder. Confusing.

I will SYScheck & post, after I do the below
Couldn't wait to start listing the SD card & USB stick contents (USB at the bottom) contents.
Content of SD card is as follows :

Root of SD card files only (not folders) :
- bootmii.elf

4 wii game titles. All named correctly.
I know what I saw, & they were iso files with game names & not with IDs (both, folders & files).

Also worth mentioning - It was poorly packed, with no real padding, & during transit, the USB stick was inserted to port.
USB stick was splitting apart at the seams & needed attention to be clipped back together. I fixed the splitting USB stick, late last night.
I must be going nuts.

About to install SYScheck to SD card & hope it's easy to use. Will post the report.
Thanks.

Also noticing that the SD card is getting fuller by the day. Strange ! Nothing else added, just the syscheck app. Maybe that virus, Avira detected & try to quarantine (?).

It was originally advertised with a 32gb SD card, but I requested a 64gb. Reason = The 32gb was full to the brim (seller stated), & I questioned the seller about other apps/games adding data. He was shaken by my reasoning, & tested most games with the 64gb SD card. So far, most seem to work.
I also got the seller to send another (spare) 64gb SD card, as a back-up.

Will compare the SD card back-up with the currently used SD card. The spare SD card has not been inserted into the wii (just in my pc). Something is not right !
Thanks.

You really didn't need to do any of that.. I only asked you to do the syscheck, which is the only important thing..

Your syscheck is fine. Other than that you need to replace the cIOS251 base (58) with base (38) as it shows here (on Section II), or you can just drop that generated syscheck file into ModMii and it will tell you what to do.

And you need to install Priiloader since your system doesn't have it, either from here or through ModMii.
Also noticing that the SD card is getting fuller by the day. Strange ! Nothing else added, just the syscheck app.
You have a lot of junk emulators and most likely lots of roms. You can either start from scratch with just the necessary homebrew apps like the Homebrew Channel, BootMii, Priiloader, usbloadergx, WiiFlow etc. Or you can manually delete those that you don't need..
It's recommended to store your roms on a usb drive (external hdd preferably), and it should not only perform faster than the sd card, but you'll have much a bigger storage capacity to store your Wii, GC and emulator games etc.
Will compare the SD card back-up with the currently used SD card. The spare SD card has not been inserted into the wii (just in my pc). Something is not right !
It will probably just have the same stuff..

Hello,

your syscheck report is not up to date, (homebrew channel, CIOS....).

To update your hack, drag and drop sycheck report into Modmii from @XFlak , then modmii will tell you what to update.

highly recommend ==> FAT32 external hard drive and use "wii backup manager" to manage your games.

USB sticks often give black screens or never boot

If you have a problem with your SD cards, try formatting them FAT32.

Thank you, CoolMe & Jeannotte.

I will try to educate myself further with the steps both of you provided.

As I originally stated - This red wii plays fine. My original concern was that the wii is ntsc & came loaded (mostly emulated games) with ntsc games (mostly).
It started when I wanted to use priiloader to check/set "region free all". And no priiloader boot-up.
I have pal games (lots) & simply wanted compatibility (ntsc wii & pal wii games/TV).
Then, the deeper I went into investigating, the more issues I found.

Why would somebody not use priiloader ? It wasn't on this red wii.
I did question the seller to have the wii region-free, & he said it was.
I assume that another wii app has a region-free setting ?

Old & outdated apps/ios/cios ? I hope it's not my fault for not setting correct date/time ?

The Sandisk SD cards (64gb-fat32). Came with the red wii, & also as a back-up of SD card.
The SD card in current use, has been growing in data amount size. As I stated, originally the SD cards were both 32gb & full to the brim. Thus my request for the 64gb SD cards.
On my first viewing of the SD cards, they were both 50% full, but as the red wii got used/tested/played, the inserted/used SD card was gathering more data & is getting filled with more & more with every use. Currently, the in-use SD card has only 520mb left (as free space), compared to when it was first used & browsed.
Something is adding data. I did compare with the other unused 64gb SD card & it's for real. The 2nd/spare SD card is still at 50% full (not/never inserted into wii (only my pc)).
I did mention/state that Avira (on my pc) detected a virus as "createcfg.exe" that is in the Hatari folder. I would have never known, but when I was listing the SD card folder/file content, Avira screamed & quarantined it. I restored it, as I thought it was a false alarm. Hope my assumption was correct (?).

The red wii still plays fine. I don't play it, but my daughter does. So far there's been no faults with any games (only the 4 wii games (on USB stick) are slow & have poor wiimote response). Emulated games play better, but most are really crap. That's another reason I wanted/needed priiloader to check/set vid display to better match ntsc wii with pal games/TV.
I wanted to add pal games directly to usb stick (that came with the wii), but the more I investigate this wii, the more weird it gets.

At this stage, I doubt I will mess with the red ntsc wii.
I really want to set-up/mod my Au/pal wii to gain better knowledge on how the hacks work. If & when I become Einstein, I will attempt completing the ios/priiloader updates. But before that, I really need to find an explanation for why the SD card keeps filling-up & with what.

Again, thanks for the support, & more education is always welcome.

Oops, sorry. The/my statement "The Sandisk SD cards (64gb-fat32)" is actually Gigastone card (the seller used). They do look-a-like, & after some research I found they are made by Sandisk (mostly), but under a different name (Gigastone). Even the colours used are almost identical. Yes, here (Au) we spell colour (as your color).
The SD cards I have on stand-by are Sandisk. They will be used to mod my other Au wiis. Somehow I found another Au wii in my garage. Guess I'm lucky.
Thanks.

You should start with the essential stuff first, Priiloader, cIOSs and Homebrew Channel. You could format one of those sdcards and start from scratch and download only the emulators and roms/games that you need/want. In that way you'd plenty of space left.
You should do the same with the usb drive, to store Wii/GC games..

Thanks, CoolMe. I have most of the apps on my pc, already, & was intending to do exactly that.
Is there any set order of installing the apps ?
I know Letterbomb pack will have BootMii & HBC.
Most guides start with HackMii to install HBC (1st) & BootMii(2nd) .
After restart, BootMii to back-up NAND.
Priiloader is usually next, followed by D2X IOS.
Up to this point, my testicles are in a large state.

As I will ONLY be playing Wii & WiiWare games (on my Au wii) ....
Wii games are the easiest, & I plan to used a wad manager to simply install WiiWare wads to SD card.
Which app will work better/safer for WiiWare wad files ? MMM, WiiMod Lite or ... ?
The other (Emuland etc) way seems like a migraine. If WiiWare games were sold online (Nintendo) & folks could simply play them after downloadin & installing the games, why would Emuland be needed ? Sorry if I'm missing the brain-link.

Ok, that 64gb Sd card (in red wii) is now full (2Mb left). Was half-full (at 1st) & all I added was syscheck.
Should I be worried that it will start deleting other files from the SD card ?
Was there ever a virus/s intended for the wii or it's apps ?
Is there a specific virus checker for the wii ?
Avira (my pc) detected "createcfg.exe" & quarantined it. Is this the virus ?
I have a feeling I will struggle to find a solution/explanation.
Thanks.
