I just wanna ask, what’s the purpose of having an option to disable the controller altogether? Because in my experience once selected by accident you no longer have access to the software and it’s as good as softlock, forcing you to shut down the console completely...

Considering that RetroArch was originally intended for PCs, where a keyboard being present at all times is safe assumption, there might be some use cases for disabling controllers in that context.

And since the ports to other systems don't change a lot of elements that only make sense for PC, I think the option is there simply because it would be too much of a hassle to remove. There's no real reason to use it in the Wii U anyway, and especially with recent changes to how remaps work, you shouldn't even go to Settings > Input to begin with if you want to remap controls and the like.

Hello, has anyone recently used ScummVM? When I choose the games folder the Wiiu crashes.

I don't know if it's broken or I'm doing something wrong.

Having issues getting the forwarder working I downloaded the latest build . I tried both deleting the wiiu/apps/retroarch folder as well as with and it doesn't launch retroarch from the home menu .

I have installed the forwarder to the band

Hello there,

I am hoping you can help me. I have installed the CrazyMac Ultimate Wii U build and the Wii U pro controllers worked perfectly before (I had 3 different pro controllers connected on the configuration port setup as #1, #2, #3 and gamepad was #4 controller) without disconnecting except when I pressed ZL button. Something occurred and I had to restart my Wii U and I had to re-install CrazyMac Ultimate Wii U build setup again. Everything works except now when I connect my Wii U pro controllers the controllers get recognized and connect, but constantly get a message at the bottom left of the screen stating the Wii U pro controller is disconnecting constantly. Each controller has a different port number 1, 2, 3. The Wii U gamepad is always remembered for port 0 even though I changed the default port 1 to be the Wii U pro controller. None of this situation ever happened when I initially installed the build, but encountered these errors when I had to reinstall it.

If you or anyone who has this build and setup can help me out, I would greatly appreciated it.

Thank you

So I was trying to play TG-16 games a while ago and some roms crashed PCE core. It showed that black error screen on gamepad and would require powering down WiiU by force. Is there any way to just show error that core crashed or some kind of error and return it back to retroarch without hard freezing?

Hello. :)

There might have been a problem with download/install using the online updater. It's quite slow so it might have just been some freezing. Other than that, is possible the sd card may have some issues. Is quite hard to say. In most cases, the updater should work when you download small files (example are the cores but not every core is small, final burn is quite big file size)

If you want the asset files, you can get it from the retroarch buildbot page as well as the cores. Here is a link to the cores for the wii u version. Simply pick the ones you want and put it in the "retroarch/cores directory"
https://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/nintendo/wiiu/latest/ (I recommend using genesis plus gx core for sega master system and game gear, it also plays megadrive and mega cd games. For 32X, use picodrive, though compatibility may vary on 32X)

The asset.zip can be found here, just extract the zip and put the folder into the retroarch directory on the sd card.
https://buildbot.libretro.com/assets/frontend/

If you want to try the online updater again, i suggest lots of patience. Is quite slow to download and install from within retroarch. Pay close attention to the progress bars and any notifications that it may relay during the update process.

Hello community , i am now reinstalling the tiramisu firmware and i just found that i had reformated the sd card to 16k cluster instead of 32k .I did all steps again with guiformat and i will report back.I really need to make it today so my baby boy be able his mother favorite of all times , asterix on Game Gear.I will report after the retroarch online installation finish.thank you .

Update : unfortunately the problem was not solved. It seems that some cores on 1.10.3 are broken. They all seem to load themselves but later on the start core button does not appear on gui and thus cannot start.

Have you put the cores in the retroarch cores folder? If you did, then you should find the cores listed.

  1. Download the cores from here (https://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/nintendo/wiiu/latest/)
  2. Pick the cores you want. (For master system games, use genesis_plus_gx.rpx.zip)
  3. Extract the zip and copy the rpx file to the proper directory on you sd card as shown in the image.
    (SD>Retroarch>Cores
Then try loading retroarch on the wii u again.

If this fails, try an alternative.
  • Follow instructions 1 & 2 above
  • Instead of copying to Retroarch>cores folder, go to Wiiu>apps folder, create a new folder. (Name it Genesis Plus GX) then put the Gensis_plus_gx.rpx file inside the folder. Then try loading it from the homebrew browser.
This may help if the first method does not.

Anyone know this? Is there a way to prevent WiiU freezing when something goes wrong?

Thank you mr Sonic Angel Knight for your suggestios yet it didnt work.It seems that m distro was missing the biosses in the cores/system folder.Ofcourse the core information tab was complaining about missig biosses .Once i extracted the biosses , it worked as it should.Retro arch implemation on wii u is very good also for portable devices i kinda miss though a n64 emulatior , and ofcourse worry because we only have scummvm 2.1.1 while wii has 2.5.1.Does this mean there are no active developers on the wii u?

Why is save state support removed from Snes9x - Current in the latest 1.10.3 update??
Okay so, nearly every core has save state support removed when I updated to 1.10.3. Anyone else? Did I change a setting somewhere or did they break it again? haha..
