Sorry for the vague title i really could not figure out how to word it.

Long story short, bought the kids an exploitable switch. Its going to be used docked almost exclusively. What is the easiest setup to completely minimise need for tech support (me) in using it? Can i just leave it switched on forever in some kinda sleep after injecting payload? Do you only have to RCM reinject on full power cycle? Can i inject without undocking it?

Cost is no real option, nor is technical ability (IT professional), im looking at chipping but the chips seem hard as heck to find. Whats the "easiest" to do in this situation?

Issue is i dont think the kids will manage to RCM + inject themselves. Altho if it was docked without joycons can you leavin in an RCM short and connect a dongle to the USBA on the back of the dock?

So many questions sorry im a noob and im trying to catch up on the scene in like a day!

Ah! fab so i dont think i really understand how people use switches haha if it never goes fully off then it keeps CFW, so a docked switch will basically stay modded indefinitely, amazing

The SX Pro dongle is pretty easy to use. Enable AutoRCM, charge the dongle and then stick it in the bottom of the switch. Charging the dongle might require a dedicated charger or outlet, or you could just use a phone. Since it has a capacitor, it does need to be charged for ~3 seconds each use. A 7 year old should be able to manage that, but maybe not a kid that's 3 or 4. Then again, this sort of thing does teach tech skills.

As others have said, if you leave it in sleep mode, you don't need to use the dongle, but you will need to use it every time it crashes, needs a firmware update, or someone accidentally turns it off. It is surprisingly stable though, and newer CFW can apparently reboot into CFW without the dongle.

Hey thanks thats a great reply, based on what im hearing, being as the switch will be right by a PC and it can be largely kept in CFW mode with potential for autoCFW/coldboot in future ill prob just perma sleep it.

I was under the impression that youd basically be having to inject every time it was used! Id love to teach the kids this stuff (age 9 and 5) but so far still working on them not snapping lightning chargers in their ipads so this is too much of a risk haha not like back in my day.....

In my experience its pretty hard to crash the system with commercial games unless you are modding them with cheats/layeredfs. Atmosphere does a pretty good job at catching most homebrew crashes too, though your kids would have to figure out to press vol + on the system.

You might want to actually leave auto-RCM off, as the kids accidently sticking it in RCM mode and then letting it drain to nothing is annoying to recover from. However you need to think about whether you care about online gaming and avoiding a ban, as you would basically have to use incognito_rcm to wipe your prodinfo from sysnand to prevent getting banned if they manage to boot up official firmware. Though that makes it pretty difficult to use official firmware to play online.

Good advice, they wont be using online nor does a ban matter, if anything comes up worth them going legit ill just pick them up a switch lite to be honest, this is just to have a fixed unit in the lounge basically for smash ultimate and a bit of mario kart
