Whenever I am in Wii mode in 1080p, either in the menu or in games, I notice faint stationary vertical lines across the entire screen. They seem to be a different shade of whatever color is being displayed, and its most noticeable when the screen is displaying darker colors. There seems to be a pattern or 5 or so of these lines and then a gap with no lines. Is this normal for the Wii? I cannot see these lines when playing Wii U games or in the Wii U menu. I have also tried to use a different display with same result. Setting the Wii U to 480p doesn't seem to help much, the pattern simply appears "zoomed in" with larger lines and larger gaps.

In games, lines are also visible when the screen is displaying two similar colors side-by-side. If there is a mist or haze rolling across the screen, these lines will come and go with it. These lines are nearly identical in 1080p and 480p, just a bit blurrier in 480.

Is this simply a limitation of the hardware or the upscaler? Again I can't see any lines or artifacts when in Wii U games or menu. Changing resolution to 480p or eliminating my television's sharpness isn't much of an improvement. Any feedback would be appreciated.

If I remember correctly, the WiiU automatically downgrades the resolution to 480i whenever it enters vWii mode, unless WiiU mode is set to 480p.
