PS1/2 SMB on android phone?

My computer died but I found this tutorial for ps2/smb on android my android is not rooted but it says it still might work before I pay for the apps I wanted to know if this is even possible before I waste my time and money wish the usb had more support its almost not even worth using without smb

What do you mean with "waste money"? Both Android apps mentioned in the thread you linked are supposed to have a 7 day trial.

Can't tell if this can work (and if root is required) because of missing knowledge about Android.

Getting a cheap computer might be a better alternative. I personally use a Raspberry Pi for providing SMB shares to the PS2.

Edit: Description of "Servers Ultimate" says:
- Root needed: Port forwarder, VNC, VPN, SMB Native
Not sure what they mean with "Native" here.
