where can I read about the raid?
https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/m7jwe3/global-raid-targets-major-tv-and-movie-piracy-group
To add to this (because all the mainstream media articles are predictably lacking in details) SPARKS was a scene group (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warez_scene for those of you who dont know what that means) and had deep ties to many other scene groups. The FBI monitored them for years and took down a bunch of the people they were in contact with in the process. Currently the scene is in meltdown mode. Most of the topsites are down and being relocated with added security. Most groups are dormant and even the ones who werent arrested who knows if they will come back. All in all a bad time. For film and tv this isnt the end of the world, p2p has passed scene in terms of quality and quantity, but for games the scene is still at the top.

No but you have to pay for a usenet provider (and generally indexers too) so youre still paying. Use private trackers, no need for a vpn or provider :)

torrents are generally for people who don't know that there's something better. astraweb had a labor day sale $3/month for life. I got that.

Thats barely cheaper than a long term vpn plan. Plus again, private torrent trackers dont need a vpn or a fee and have more content if youre on the right trackers. For games no usenet indexer will have as much as ggn. Same with movies for ptp, etc.

not really. most private trackers force you to maintain a ratio or pay them money to increase what you already have. if you want to download something old, good luck. with usenet, there's no seeding, no ratios to maintain. I'm downloading a bunch of star trek stuff right now from a private tracker. I'm going to have to pay to increase my ratio as there's like no one downloading this stuff with about a terabyte worth of content, which may be more than I've downloaded combined. season 1 and 2 of next gen is nearly 160GBs.

This is really off topic for this thread but thats really not an issue. Trackers that actually have 'hard ratio' are very rare. Most of them have soft ratio which means that just by seeding the content you get points and can buy upload with those points which makes them extremely easy. I have 7tb of buffer on ggn and i dont even try. As for the age, torrents are better. Im on sites that have torrents still alive from 2006, while usenet indexers delist files usually after a few years.

edit: also btw the top tv tracker is ratioless :)

It doesn't seem that bad. From the discord server:
As of October 1st the HBG SHOP will no longer be active
However, don’t worry. HBG will still be keeping the scene alive. As most of you know by now we, HBG, are the main source for the scene. But nowadays there are many different shops out there. There is no longer a need to put ourselves out there and maintain a shop. You guys all have many options to choose from now. Instead we will focus purely on the scene and unlocking while we step back and let others handle the shops/front end. This was we can continue keeping things moving smoothly. Nonetheless, we cannot do this without your help. The group will still continue to take donations so that the other shops/groups out there can mirror the files and keep the experience going. This cannot be done without the help of you kind souls. So if you can put your trust in this decision and let us 100% focus on the backend than we can as a scene progress together.
There are still going to unlock the games, their just closing the store because there are a bunch of other stores that are out there

Correct. Plans are already in place for how everyone is moving forwards. Theres a designated 'replacement' shop and direct download group, and of course hbg will provide stash access with a download still.

I'm a heavy usenet and private tracker user.

Usenet SUCKS when it comes to games. PERIOD.

Theres nothing to discuss here, I'm on pretty much every indexer you can imagine and they all together doesn't come close to GGn.

That being said, for TV/Movies it's a wonderful thing.

So other then Jits what are the other alternatives?
There really arent any. Theres other public shops but they have small userbases and arent set up to be able to handle the numbers of people jits has or hbg had. They already have quota problems and if massive numbers of users flocked to them youd never be able to download anything. Really the only options are jits or make your own private shop.

Hmmmm I donated to one of the shops and have access and need to use rclone etc but like you said think they are having issues with people downloading etc it’s just slow and takes time.

Wow I can't believe how many people are so dependent on JITS or the HBG Shop. I been ditched the shops because they always shut down occasionally once I went torrents I never looked back.
