Hey,

I have an issue right now, hopefully someone can help. I couldn't find any answers so far.

So.. a few weeks ago I installed a CFW on my switch. Everything worked fine. Now I wanted to change my 64gb SD card to a 128gb card. Both cards are samsung evo plus cards and I format them to FAT32.

I created an image file of the old sd card and copied this to the new card. With the easeus partition manager I re-sized the new sd card.

For the first time I used the new card everything worked fine. I installed two games. They were working. I installed a third game and the switch completely crashes. In the home menu I can't see the picture of the game, just an empty box with a loading circle. When I try to start anything or just want to go to the settings atmosphere crashes. I have to reebot then but I can't boot into atmosphere. There will just be a black screen with an error message like "firmware might be damaged"

So I deleted the sd card and started again with the image file. On the second try I installed a different game. This immediately crashed the firmware again.

3rd try...tried to install a different game again. That worked. So I thought the error might be gone and I tried to install the game from the second try. The switch crashed again.

I use goldleaf and the usbloader to install nsp files.

Have you ever experienced this error? I'm not sure if this is caused by copying the sd card or could the nsp files be broken? I installed like ten games on my 64gb sd card and never had a problem.Could the sd card be "broken"?

Thanks for your help in advance

Do you have cheats for that game? If yes, disable them.
I assume you have proper sigpatches for your hos+ams version

Why did you do all this and why the re-size of the new sd card?
I would try to format the new sd again and just copy over everything without creating an image etc.
You could also try to run hwtest and check your sd.

Maybe it is also because you copied over old folders and when you installed Atmosphere you just chose to overwrite the old files instead of deleting? Try to start with a clean sd -> install Atmosphere -> install game if that doesn't work then at least your old files at least were alright

Things to try:
  1. Don't mess with card imaging. Just copy/paste the appropriate files/folders instead.
  2. Use blawar's Tinfoil and NUT to install your games over USB instead.

Yes, I installed the newest sigpatches. Cheats shouldn't be activated. I never did and the switch crashes immediately after installing.

I did it with the image because there are two partitions on the sd card. the switch storage and the backup of the original firmware?
I didn't copy over old folders. I just created a copy of the perfect working sd card and tried to install new nsps. The strange thing is that I could install two games but the third one crashed the switch

If I start installing atmosphere on the new sd card just from the beginning, can I copy my savegames from the old sd card? Were are they located on the sd card?

@masc4rPWNe Are you using an emuMMC, or are you using your sysMMC?

I use the emuMMC... that's the second option in the hekate launch menu, right?

btw...I asked a friend if he had this problem and he said yes one time...he bought a new sd card and since then it's fine. I can't imagine that this problem is related to the sd card. I got the good samsung cards

It sounds like your emuMMC might be damaged. In the future, if you're transferring an emuMMC from one SD to another, it's recommended that you make a brand new emuMMC partition on the new SD card, and then transfer an emuMMC backup from the old SD card to the new SD card.

Out of curiosity, why are you using an emuMMC?

The emuMMC is working fine. That's why I created the image...to copy all the partitions on the sd card. Everything is working...but since I try to clone the sd card and installing nsps the switch randomly crashes. Right now I'm trying to install one again I will send you a picture of the error message.

If it's possible to copy the savegames to the new card that would be good and I would just complete restart installing atmosphere on the new card. But I remember from 3DS times that it was hard to copy savegames.

What do you mean with why I'm using an emuMMC?

If you're getting random crashes and errors, particularly "firmware might be damaged" errors, the emuMMC might not be fine.

I know, but this is not recommended. It's cleaner to recreate an emuMMC partition on the new SD card and copy over the emuMMC after the fact.

Do your crashes only occur when installing games? Have you tried blawar's Tinfoil?

If you're using an emuMMC, the save files are stored on the emuMMC partition. If you recreate the emuMMC partition cleanly on the new SD card and then copy the emuMMC backup to the fresh emuMMC partition, the save games will come with it. Alternatively, you can make decrypted backups of your save files using JKSV, and you can restore those save files using JKSV.

If you're using the sysMMC, the save files are stored on the Switch's sysMMC itself. Periodic backups using JKSV are still recommended.

What do you mean with why I'm using an emuMMC?
A lot of people who use an emuMMC don't need to be using an emuMMC. There are only two reasons to use an emuMMC:
  1. To play online with legitimately purchased games on a clean sysMMC. The dirty emuMMC is for all hackery and is blocked from connecting to Nintendo's servers using Incognito or 90DNS.
  2. To use hacks on a 4.1.0 ipatched Switch. An updated emuMMC is required to play newer games on these systems, since the sysMMC must stay on 4.1.0 and never connect to the internet.
For which reason are you using an emuMMC?

So the strange thing first: a nsp that crashed the switch yesterday is working fine now. That is so weird...

So just for clarification (sorry my english isn't that good, especially when we talk about technical things :)) :

The emuMMC is the copy of the firmware with the customfirmware installed
The sysMMC is the original firmware.. correct?
There is a third option in the hekate loader..something with stock? What's that?

I'm using an emuMMC because I'm using my switch nearly only during the holiday and I'm getting tired of carrying all the cartridges and change them everytime. I was thinking a long time to do this because I also want to on playing Smash and Mario Kart online. So with the option to change to the original software that sounds good. I just saw that there are many options you can do with the CFW like streaming things from your PC to the switch, browse in the Internet etc. If that works that would be cool and I don't need to carry the tablet to the holiday. But as I mentioned, I just started with that a short time ago and I don't get it why I could nsps without a problem but now this error occures. And it looks like it's randomly

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

@Lacius I tried a second nsp now and it crashed again. I will start from the beginning and install atmosphere to the new sd card

You have four primary boot options:
  1. OFW on the sysMMC
  2. CFW on the sysMMC
  3. OFW on the emuMMC
  4. CFW on the emuMMC
OFW is original firmware with largely no hacks. CFW is custom firmware, which means you're running hacks. sysMMC is the Switch system. emuMMC is a copy of the system system files on the SD card pretending to be the Switch system.

You should use #1 for online play with legitimate games, and you should use #4 for all hacks.

So when I'm done with the installation on the new sd card. Which one of these folders do I have to copy to get my savegames? Thats a screenshot of the folders from the origin sd card

Anything to pay attention?

Like I said before, your save files are on the emuMMC partition. You can backup the save files using JKSV, and they will end up in the JKSV folder.

so just copying the emuMMC folder is not possible?
Your save files are not located in the emuMMC folder. You need to backup and restore the emuMMC partition, or you need to use JKSV to backup decrypted versions of your save files to the SD card.

that sounds really difficult... I will see if I can find a guide

I don't know what you're wanting to do at this point. Here are my troubleshooting steps:
  1. Make sure you're using the proper signature patches for your bootloader
  2. Use blawar's Tinfoil to install your NSP files
  3. Use Daybreak to (re)install 10.1.0 to your emuMMC

I just created the new emuMMC on the new sd card. I installed the newest sigpatches. I only have two games.. I can live with that if I lose the savegames now.
Why do you use Tinfoil to install NPSs? I read that goldleaf would be better.

Saving my savegames was the reason why I created the image of the sd card including the 30gb partition with the emuMMC. I just wanted to go on there with the bigger sd card. Everything worked fine until there, never had issues with goldleaf and NSPs

Blawar's Tinfoil has fewer glitches, but it's closed-source, and the only way to use it with Atmosphere is to use fusee-primary.

As I said a few times before, you could have backed up your save files using JKSV and restored them later.
