Hacking USB Loader GX save game help

Apologies for my absolute Noob question. Please be patient with me.
I am using USB Loader GX to run Wii games off a usb stick connected to Wii.
My son plays Mario Galaxy on it, but everytime he goes back to the game his progress is not saved.
I understand there are some settings to change in the settings page of USB Loader GX.
Could someone help me please with a simple walkthrough as to which settings I should change?

What is the version of the loader (usb loader gx) ??

Is your hack up to date?

If you wish, you can post a syscheck report, by following this guide ==>https://gbatemp.net/threads/posting-a-system-check.300279/

In general, the usb keys work badly with the wii (often black screen or does not start)

The version I am on Version 3.0 r1272
I am not sure what you mean when you say "is your hack up to date" ?

I have never had many issues regarding using the usb key.
I value your assitance and I will also follow the link regarding syscheck

Hello,

Version 1272 of usb loader gx caused some game launch issues, so it has been downgraded.

Please use (test) version 1271 of usb loader gx and see the result ?? ==>https://sourceforge.net/projects/usbloadergx/files/Releases/New revisions (3.0+)/

Myself, I am in version 1271, and it works like a charm

Going back to my original query. Do I have to change anything in the settings in order for the games to save progress?
