I’m at my wits end and don’t know what to do. I paid a “professional” to modify my brand new 3ds xl. I can’t build cia for any game I own. They are legit game cartridges. I purchased a 128 gb sad card with 124 gbs free. It’s not in read only mode, I checked.

Here’s what I’m doing. I boot into god mode9. I scroll down to my game cartridge. Go down to the .trim.3ds file and press a. I select the ndcs image options and and select the “build cia from file”.
Then I get the message “cia build failed”.

even worst, I can’t even copy any files to the gm9 out folder. I tried to copy the trim.3ds file to the out folder because I saw a YouTube video that did the conversion in the out folder and I get a failure message every time,

I tried to copy my .trim.nds to the out folder so I could convert them to cia using forwarder on my pc, and even those won’t copy.

I put the original 4gb card in and tried to build a cia for a game and it also failed. I couldn’t copy nds files on the original card either. This is why I think something wasn’t installed properly on the game system.

I have searched everywhere and can’t find anyone who has this problem or a fix. And the person I paid, is saying it worked “perfectly” when they finished. I’ve tried with over 20 games.

please help me fix my system.

Are you following the gm9 instructions fully on the 3ds.hacks.guide website?

I paid $55 to a person on Etsy.
I didn’t install any of the programs. But I have followed the instructions exactly on how they are suppose to work.

I did find some of my games on the internet already in cia form and they installed just fine. I just can’t seem to make them myself.

I dont think you have. You should be seeing a tmd file on gm9. which should ask to build as standard or legit.

Ouch could of done it for $0
Well, I’m about to file a claim against them as it doesn’t work. I’m about as green as it gets when it comes to programming. In all honest, I was going to do it myself when I found that guide, and I couldn’t understand the first couple sentences let alone figure out what I need. I was afraid of screwing up my system and it looks like it got screwed up anyways.

How does the file get from my cartilage to gm9?

I mean. how do you think its that person's fault when you understand nothing of how the cfw programs work? Why bother installing cfw from anyone when you know that you know nothing of how to upkeep the 3ds?

We can try doing some troubleshooting. You will not find a .tmd file on a cartridge – that is nonsense.

First thing is to verify if the 3DS (and GodMode9) can write anything onto your SD(s).

Gm9 reads the cart and dumps it that's how

that doesn’t explain the “how” part. I’m in god mode 9 and my cartridge is in the slot. Where in gm9 does this Tmd file appear.

also, this is the instructional video from YouTube I was following.

Ya. i do apologize about that info after looking at gm9 usage. They still got odd issues of the 3ds.

so the failed attempts to build a cia do appear on the gm9 out folder.

Please no video tutorials. I don't think you are necessarily doing something wrong. If you tried multiple things and writing to SD:/gm9/out fails we have to find out why. The SD check above is a good idea to rule out issues with the SD itself.

Just to make this clear, building CIA from cartridge is a straightforward process and hard to mess up:

Check if your SD card is fake, faulty, or dying.
  1. Copy everything off the SD card to a computer.
  2. Quadruple reformat.
  3. Full Write + Verify the empty card in H2testw. Do not skip.
Ok, I have a question. If I format in ntfs in windows explorer as my card in 128 gb, guiformat formats also in ntfs with no option to change. So what format does the card need to be in?

Windows File Explorer (if bigger than 32 GB, use NTFS
guiformat - FAT32 + 32 KB (32768)
