Homebrew Can someone explain what a FTP is?

Every time I look it up, I get crazy amounts of answers I don't understand at all. I have legitimately tried to figure it out but I'm too small brain.

So I ask, can someone explain it in "simple" terms?

Correct, but it is slow. If you were to transfer a file about 3gb, it may take an hour or so. I use ftp for small things, homebrew, program updates, saves, and the occasional retroarch thing.

Download and also copy, paste, delete, move files into/from your 3DS.
Say, if you needed to edit some configuration file from some plugin or whatever, you can download the file, edit on a text editor on PC, and then reupload and overwrite the original.
It's not just for downloading games and stuff.

FTP is, as the name says, a protocol for file transfer.
You have a server and clients that communicate using that protocol: the server stores files, clients connect to the server and download/upload files.

For the 3DS, using your PC as a server, you can use homebrew as FTPD to make the 3DS to act as a client or even the built-in app for microSD management on New 3DS' consoles, and download files from the server. It means you can download files directly from your PC.
